Control of Anthracnose in Cultivated Cantaloupe

Anthracnose of muskmelon is a fungal disease. Anthracnose of muskmelon occurs seriously in the middle and later stage of plant growth, which mainly harms stems, leaves and fruits. After harvest, infected fruits will rot in wet environment and become unedible. Semicircular brown spots appeared on the edge of the cotyledons of the diseased seedlings. The diseased part of the young stem was dark brown and constricted, the melon seedlings were easy to die, and the leaves were black or purple-black with concentric round spots at the adult stage. The disease spot is easy to crack and break. Melon vines or petioles are damaged, resulting in spindle-shaped black slightly sunken spots. Fruit damage, initially a dark green waterlogging-like round spot, gradually expanding as a dark brown sunken spot. In a moist environment, pink sticky material overflows on the disease spot, and conidia with bacteria are found. After drying up, the disease spot often shows star-shaped cracking. In severe cases, the disease spots are linked together, causing the fruit to rot. The pathogen overwinters in the soil or on the seeds with the disease remains. Conidia are transmitted by wind, rain, running water, insects and human and animal activities. High humidity is an important factor to induce the disease. In the year with more rainfall and the temperature of 20-24 ℃, the plant grows luxuriantly and the disease is the most prosperous.

Control methods: disinfect the seeds before sowing or mix the seeds with chemicals. The crop rotation has been carried out for 3 to 5 years. Select good drainage plots for planting, high border cultivation, and increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. The medicament can be sprayed with 80% Dysen zinc 800x solution or 70% methyl topiramate 1000 fold solution, 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder 500mm 600x liquid spray.
