Cantaloupes planted in plastic greenhouses will soon be put on the market in large quantities. Every buyer wants to buy melons with good color, sweet and crisp, especially farmers who grow cantaloupes. They also want their melons to be liked by buyers and sell at a good price. At present, some of the melons sold on the market are indeed poor in color and sweetness, and the selling price is 20% less than that of high-quality cantaloupes. What is the reason why the color of cantaloupe is poor and not sweet? The main reasons are as follows:

1. Improper selection of varieties. The sweetness of cantaloupe is related to species, so high quality varieties must be selected when planting cantaloupe.

2. The pruning is too heavy, the proportion of mature leaves is too small, the nutrient supply is insufficient from fruit ripening to sugar accumulation, the plant is senescent prematurely, the leaf is aging, weakening or losing the ability to produce nutrients, and the fruit epidermis is fragile in order to maintain its own development instead of leaves to produce nutrients. Pericarp at maturity. The synthesis of chlorophyll on the surface is greater than the decomposition, so that the pericarp cells contain a large amount of chlorophyll, which can not turn yellow, so the color is not good and the sweetness is poor.

3. The number of leaves retained in the whole plant is too small, the fruit is basically exposed, and most of the fruit surface is irradiated by direct light, which is easy to increase the fruit temperature and inhibit the synthesis of yellow carotenoids. Direct light is beneficial to the synthesis of green chlorophyll. Scattered light is beneficial to the synthesis of yellow carotenoids. Because the back shade fruit receives more scattered light, it first shows the yellow of carotenoids, so the fruit covered by leaves is well colored.

4. Improper application of water and fertilizer. In the late stage of melon fruit setting, that is, 10 days before the market, not particularly dry, do not water, watering will significantly reduce the sweetness of cantaloupe. Special attention should be paid to the application of potassium fertilizer during the growth period of muskmelon, which can obviously improve the quality of muskmelon. In order to control nitrogen fertilizer, excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer will not only reduce the sweetness of muskmelon, but also cause excessive nitrite accumulation, which is harmful to human body. The principles of controlling nitrogen, applying phosphorus and increasing potassium should be grasped in the fertilization of muskmelon, and the combined application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be achieved. In order to increase the sweetness of cantaloupe, 10 days before harvest, sweeteners such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate or Baofengling can be sprayed on the leaves, or 10% sugar can be sprayed.
