Eucommia ulmoides generally uses seeds to raise seedlings, but cutting propagation has the advantages of good quality and high economic benefits.

1. Cutting time. Generally, it is appropriate to cut in May to June, in the morning and evening or in cloudy and rainy days, the row spacing is 810 cm, and the branches are 3 cm into the soil. After insertion, a shed should be set up for shading, moisturizing and preventing cuttings from wilting.

2. Prepare the inserts. The sturdy twigs of young trees without Lignification should be selected as cuttings. Pick off the terminal bud 10 days before harvest, insert with 3 leaves, cut off half of the leaves with scissors to reduce leaf water evaporation; soak the cuttings in clean water for one day, absorb enough water to resist drought and pass the summer. If you use rooting powder, the effect is better.

3. Nursery site selection. Choose the slightly acidic sandy soil with loose and fertile soil, convenient drainage and leeward to the sun as the nursery land. Fine soil preparation, 300 kilograms of rotten farm manure per mu as base fertilizer, and then mixed with soil fertilizer to make a seedbed 2 meters wide and 30 centimeters high, spraying water regularly to keep the soil water content at about 15%.

4. Strengthen the management. Cuttings can gradually take root after a month in the soil. Seedlings should be checked regularly, weeds should be removed, and feces and urine of familiar people should be applied thinly to promote seedling growth.

5. Disease and pest control. Give priority to prevention, comprehensive and timely prevention and control.

In general, the cuttings can grow to 80cm in height in the same year, and the seedlings are thick and strong, and they can be planted in early spring the following year.
