There are three methods of licorice propagation: seed propagation, rhizome propagation and plant propagation.

1. Land selection and preparation: it is suitable to use sandy soil and loose red loam, applying barnyard manure 2500kg, turning 40~50cm deeply in autumn, raking fine and leveling, making high ridges, ridge width 40~50cm, furrow width 30~35cm.

2. Seed reproduction: because the cortex of licorice seeds is hard and thick, and it is not easy to emerge, grind the seeds with the same amount of broken glass and seeds for half an hour before sowing, and the germination rate is about 85%; or mix and store the seeds with 3 times the amount of wet sand for one or two months, or soak the seeds in warm water of 60 ℃ for 4 hours before sowing, cover them with a wet cloth, drench them with clean water twice a day, and sow seeds when the seeds are cracked. From late March to early April, two shallow trenches of 1.5~2cm were opened on the ridges, and the seeds were evenly sowed in the ditches, covered with soil and watered, and seedlings could emerge half a month after sowing. Planting ridges is better than planting flat beds, which is convenient for drainage, ventilation and light, and has deep roots. If you sow seeds before winter, you don't have to sprout. Sowing rate 2.5kg per 667m2.

3. Rhizome propagation: licorice should be picked in spring and autumn for rhizome propagation, and its coarse root should be selected as medicine. The thinner rhizome should be truncated to grow a small section of 15cm, each section with root buds and fibrous roots, two grooves about l0cm should be opened on the ridge, and the rhizome should be laid flat in the ditch according to the plant spacing 15cm, covered with soil and watered to keep the soil moist. Planting seedlings 75~100kg every 667m2.

4. Split propagation: many new plants often sprout around the mother plant of Glycyrrhiza uralensis, which can be dug up and transplanted in spring and autumn.
