Citrus fruit cracking occurs every year, especially after the Mid-Autumn Festival, and fruit growers suffer heavy losses. The main reason for citrus fruit cracking is the imbalance of water supply. For example, serious fruit cracking occurs when there is heavy rain after a long drought. The following measures can be taken to reduce the occurrence of fruit cracking:

1. Apply more organic fertilizer and potash fertilizer and less phosphate fertilizer

From late July to early August, 30-40 cm deep holes can be dug on both sides of the crown of fruiting trees. 30 kg of human and animal manure, 0.2 kg of urea and 0.2 kg of potassium chloride can be applied, and 3-5 kg of plant ash can also be used instead of other potash.

When the fruit is enlarged, some foliar fertilizer with high potassium and calcium content is sprayed in the crown to increase the toughness of the pericarp. 0.3% potassium sulfate or potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be sprayed on the leaf every morning or evening, once a week.

2. Popularize grass cover in orchards.

Keep the weeds in the orchard in the second half of the year, but remove the weeds in the tree plate; cut down and cover the tree plate when the grass grows high, use grass to maintain the humidity of the garden, maintain the soil water balance, create a good orchard microclimate, reduce fruit cracking in summer and autumn, and help to control mites.

3. Do a good job in water management

During the summer drought, at the beginning of the drought, shallow ploughing of 8cm in the tree plate and 15cm deep ploughing between rows; if you need irrigation to fight drought, you should first use a sprayer to wet the tree crown, and then irrigate. The stagnant water should be eliminated in time after rainfall to prevent the imbalance of soil moisture and prevent the fruit from cracking due to the expansion of the inner diameter caused by the absorption of too much water.

4. Drug crack prevention

When individual fruit cracking occurs in normal trees, gibberellin, cytokinin and brassine can be sprayed (the usage dosage refers to the pesticide instruction) to keep the pericarp cells active and reduce fruit cracking.
