Experts say the disease is gone again.

Recently, many readers have consulted that the jujube trees they plant are endangered by jujube mad disease every year. What's going on? How to prevent and cure it? In response to these problems, the reporter interviewed Feng Yibin, a researcher at Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Expert Feng said that jujube mad disease, also known as witches' broom disease and male jujube disease, is a destructive disease of jujube trees, which is mainly spread by disease-borne insects. The main factors affecting the incubation period of jujube mad disease are: first, grafting time. The disease may occur in the same year inoculated before the end of June, and symptoms will not appear until after the next year of inoculation. The second is the inoculation site. The disease occurred in the same year when inoculated in the root, but later in the branch, and did not occur until the following year. The third is the amount of inoculation. The disease occurs more quickly when the number of skin grafts is more. The disease of jujube generally occurs first from some branches, jujube strands and root tillers, but also from the whole plant at the same time, and the symptoms spread from the local to the whole plant. The occurrence of jujube mad disease is related to jujube varieties. Different jujube varieties have different disease resistance. The incidence of drought and barren soil, extensive management and weak tree potential in jujube orchard is more serious, and vice versa. But the disease is rare in saline-alkali soil. The occurrence and prevalence of jujube mad disease is also related to the altitude, slope direction and breeding mode of the jujube garden. The prevention and control of jujube mad disease should start from the following four aspects:

First, breeding disease-resistant varieties. Attention should be paid to the discovery and utilization of disease-resistant varieties and breeding of disease-resistant varieties are the fundamental measures to control jujube mad disease. Second, root out the diseased plant. Jujube mad disease is the source of transmission of the disease, must be eradicated as soon as possible, and clean the roots, so as not to infect other plants. Third, control disease-borne insects. Internal inhaling organophosphorus pesticides were sprayed 3 or 4 times a year to control the number of disease-borne insects and to control the spread of the disease. Fourth, breeding disease-free seedlings and strengthening quarantine. Persist in picking ears, budding and breeding seedlings in the disease-free garden, and cultivate disease-free seedlings. Once the seedlings have symptoms, they should be removed immediately. In addition, quarantine should be strengthened to prevent the transfer of seedlings and ear harvesting from the affected areas.
