Grafting jujube with embedded buds is a good way to develop excellent jujube varieties. The introduction is as follows:

Tools: pruning shears, grafting knives, plastic strips.

2. Collection and storage of scion. ① spring and summer: (late April to late June), before the end of March, the first branches of one-year-old jujube with full development and free of diseases and insect pests were collected in the mother tree garden of improved varieties, cut off the secondary branches (leaving 2 cm long), preserved in cool and humid places, buried with wet sand, and could also be stored in a cellar below 4 meters or hoisted underground (less than 7 ℃). In this way, the scion can be stored from late June to early July. ② autumn pick-up: (from early August to mid-late September) collect Lignification branches of the same year, remove secondary branches and leaves immediately, and use them whenever you pick them. If it needs to be stored for a short time, it can be inserted into a container containing 10 cm of water and lifted into the underground 0.5-1 m from the surface of the water or in the cellar.

3. Grafting method

① cut wood buds: use pruning shears to cut off the remaining secondary branches and stumps 1-2 mm above the lateral buds, while removing needles. When cutting buds, hold the branch above the main bud in one hand, hold a knife in the other, push the first knife from top to bottom at the intersection of the secondary branch and the primary branch, about 3.5-4 cm long, which is the long cutting surface; at 0.5 cm above the end of the first knife, cut the second knife horizontally downward to the junction of the first knife, with an angle of 30 degrees, this is the short cutting surface. If the scion is too thick, sometimes longitudinal stripes will appear on the long cutting surface, which can be flipped over and carefully cut off the protruding part to make the long cutting surface smooth.

② rootstock treatment: cut the rootstock 20 cm from the ground in spring and summer to remove the secondary branches and acupuncture. In autumn, the rootstock is not cut in the same year, and the secondary branches below 20-50 cm in the lower part of the seedling and acupuncture are removed. Choose a straight and smooth surface at 10 cm from the ground, hold the rootstock with one hand and push the first knife downward with the other, the length is slightly longer than the long cutting surface of the grafting bud, and the width is the same as the grafting bud, and then cut the second knife horizontally at 0.5 cm above the end point of the knife edge, the short cutting surface of the same scion. Get rid of the anvil.

③ grafting: the removed buds are quickly embedded in the incision of the rootstock to align the inferior oblique orifice with the cambium on the left and right sides. Use a plastic strap with good elasticity, high tension and good softness to wrap it tightly from bottom to top to expose the bud part.

4. Grafted seedling management. Spring grafting seedlings when the jujube head branch or jujube suspension grows to 3-10 cm, cut the anvil 1 cm above the bud and apply paint or wax to protect the wound. For jujube seedlings grafted in autumn, cut the rootstock in the spring of the following year. Other management techniques are the same as the general jujube seedlings. This method is suitable for nursery land, high grafting, wild sour jujube, excellent variety of jujube and so on.
