When it comes to water hyacinth, we are still very familiar with it. We can often see something like a gourd floating on the pond or by the river. It is called water hyacinth. The reproduction speed of water hyacinth is very fast, and it is also very good to survive. The vitality is relatively tenacious.

What is water hyacinth?

Water hyacinth (Water Hyacinth), also known as hyacinth, water hyacinth, water hyacinth, hyacinth, hyacinth blue. It belongs to the genus Eichhornia of the family Euphorbiaceae. Native to South America, it was introduced to China in 1901 to solve the shortage of pig feed. Water hyacinth breeds very fast. It breeds at twice the rate of reproduction every week. It grows widely in the waters of southern China and becomes one of the typical representatives of alien species.

Morphological characteristics of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth rhizome, thick and short, dense mostly slender fibrous roots; leaves basal, rosette arrangement, leaf ovate, Obovate to kidney round, varying in size, about 4 cm wide, smooth, petiole base with purplish red, inflated gourd-shaped air bag.

There are bright purple flowers, the top petal has a blue fan-shaped patch, the center is dotted with a peach-shaped bright macula; green leaves cup-shaped, the base of the leaf stem is inflated so that the plant can float on the water; the flowering stem is solitary, with sheath-shaped bracts in the middle, and spikes with 6-lobed flowers; perianth 6-lobed, purplish blue, upper lobes larger, bright yellow spots in the blue center, glandular hairs at the base outside Stamens 3 long and 3 short, long protruding from flowers, filaments irregularly United in perianth; ovary oblong; Rubus ovoid.

How to manage the stocking of water hyacinth

1. Timely stocking

After the end of frost in spring, stocking begins when the temperature reaches more than 13 ℃. Water hyacinth likes to grow in groups and grows fast in groups, so when stocking, the stocking amount should not be less than 300kg per 0.067 hectares. after stocking, it must be surrounded and fixed with wooden poles and grass ropes, so as to avoid being blown away by the wind. 2. Scientific fertilization

Water hyacinth likes to grow in fertilizer and water, and the plants in the fertilizer pond grow stronger, the stems and leaves are bright green, and the roots are thick and short; on the contrary, the water hyacinth grown in thin ponds has short plants, yellow stems and leaves, and slender roots. Therefore, when breeding, the growth of the plant is poor, and when the leaves are yellow, fertilizer should be applied in time, and it is appropriate to use rotten farm manure, or it can be sprayed with 1% Murray 3% ammonium sulfate solution to promote its growth. 3. Pest control

There are few diseases and insect pests in water hyacinth. If aphids are found, 40% omethoate 1000-1500 times diluent should be sprayed to prevent and control the disease. Half a month after spraying, it can be fished for feeding.

4. Timely harvest

Water hyacinth can be harvested when it is full of potholes or when it is in large areas. Regular salvage is conducive to the dispersion of water hyacinth plants, expand the nutritional area, facilitate the absorption of sunlight and water, and continue to reproduce and grow. 5. Protect overwintering

Water hyacinth in the north of the Yangtze River basin can not survive the winter naturally, must be protected in order to survive the winter, generally use a protective pool to winter, that is, in the leeward to the sun, dig 3 meters long and wide, 2 meters deep pool, the bottom of the pool covered with plastic film to prevent underwater seepage (conditions can be built with brick, cement made of permanent pool). After that, the water hyacinth for the following year is moved into the pool and covered with thin film. When the temperature is extremely low, the water hyacinth should be covered with grass to keep warm.

Matters needing attention in planting water hyacinth

1. Watering essentials: different growth periods of the same kind of flowers have different requirements for water, water hyacinth needs more water in the peak growth period, appropriate more watering to promote growth, and less watering in the flower bud differentiation period to promote flower bud differentiation.

2, pruning essentials: when water hyacinth is pruned, a pruning is carried out in spring to trim withered, castrated leaves or withered branches, which is loose, which is conducive to the better growth of water hyacinth.

3. Pot soil replacement: when transplanting, the new flowerpot needs to be mixed with the original soil, generally 70% of the original soil and 30% of the new soil, and then move the water hyacinth into it, which can prevent the death of the water hyacinth due to sudden changes in the environment.

I think everyone is familiar with water hyacinth, its planting is relatively simple, its vitality is relatively tenacious and the speed of reproduction is also very fast, so planting water hyacinth must be harvested in time and often salvaged, in order to be conducive to its spread and growth.
