Although apple trees are a good variety of cold-resistant, but when planting we also need to pay a lot of effort. We all know that many fruits need to be transplanted or grafted at the later stage of planting. Grafting is also a technique used to grow apple trees.

Grafting Technique of Apple Tree

1. Selection of rootstock. Strong growth, developed roots, no diseases and insect pests, and scion has affinity with the plant.

2. Selection of scion. Select sunny, short-internode, well-developed annual branches.

3. The treatment of scion. The scion is 5-10cm long with more than two leaf buds. Then use a cutting knife to cut the scion's base without buds, and cut it into a smooth long slope about 2.5cm long. Generally, do not cut off the pith, and it is better to have a little xylem. The other side of the favorite cut into less than 1cm long short slope, so that the scion at the end of a flat wedge.

4. The treatment of rootstock. Rootstocks should be 1-2cm thick seedlings. Cut the rootstock from 5-8cm away from the ground, trim the rootstock flat, and then cut vertically with a cutter at the smoother side of the rootstock according to the thickness of the scion, with a section length of about 2.5 cm.

5. Grafting operation. Insert the long cut surface of the scion into the rootstock incision, align the cambium on both sides, and expose about 0.2cm at the upper end of the scion cut surface, that is,"white", in order to facilitate the healing and growth of the rootstock and scion.

6. Binding. After connecting, bind the interface with a plastic belt 0.5cm wide and apply wax to prevent drying. When binding, do not move the position aligned with the anvil cambium, the tightness should be moderate, not only do not damage the tissue, but also firm.

Apple tree grafting time

Apple tree grafting, time is very important, mostly in June to August or spring between March and April, and apple tree grafting can also be divided into two kinds of teeth and branches, bud grafting scion is mostly a tooth bud, this kind of grafting is needed between June and August, because only this time, its scion can grow well, grafting success rate will be relatively high.

How to choose scion for apple pair

Apple tree grafting, scion selection is also very important, should choose those healthy, high-yield and good quality fruit trees without diseases and insect pests, from their crown periphery to select full buds of new branches as scions, in addition to the selection of good scions, need to cut them down, inserted into the bucket or basin, cultured for about two days, will increase its grafting survival rate.

Apple tree grafting precautions

1. Apple seedling propagation is generally budded from July to September, and high grafting is generally grafted before germination in spring.

2, at present, each kind of apple to maintain the variety characteristics are used to propagate grafting, sowing variability is too high, out of this variety is not, cutting, layering survival rate is low, and the root system is not good.

3. Grafting apple trees is mainly to obtain varieties with excellent varieties and characters, and to obtain high yield and high quality.

4. The conventional rootstock of apple tree is mountain stator, but any other apple tree you use can be grafted, but the growth is slightly worse.

Grafting fruit trees is mainly to maintain the variety characteristics of a variety, but also to cultivate dwarf seedlings, and to improve soil suitability and cold resistance. The defect of grafted trees was that they needed to grow seedlings for an additional year. Moreover, for these varieties, they could not reproduce without rootstock. After all, the seeds that grew out of them were no longer of this variety. Apples are cross-pollinated and self-pollinated among different apple varieties, and the fruit setting rate among the same varieties is very low. Seeds vary greatly.

Apple tree grafting is still very technical. Especially to choose a suitable time to carry out, too early or too late may affect the late survival and growth, so the spring and summer of each year is the most suitable time. Grafting has many benefits, but it takes an extra year to grow seedlings.
