Growing cabbage seems simple, but it is not simple. Like other planting industries, it needs to go through a lot of steps and certain planting techniques. Chinese people have accumulated a lot of experience in growing cabbage, and the editor lists only a small part of it here.

The method of growing cabbage

1. Dig holes: shovel a few times in the soil to be dug with a shovel, and finally shovel perpendicular to the ground, about 7cm, shovel up the soil in front of the body, so that the opening of the hole reaches 2-3cm.

2. Seedling: hold the seedling in the left hand, make the root downward, and insert the root of the seedling obliquely into the hole along the shovel from the upper right of the hole, be careful not to insert it too deep.

3. Press the soil: the left hand straightens the seedling, the right hand takes out the shovel and pushes the soil to the root, and the left thumb presses the solid root soil to fix the seedling in the hole soil.

4. Planting: continue to plant other Chinese cabbage seedlings with reasonable planting density (usually row spacing is about 20cm, plant spacing is about 15cm).

Planting techniques of Chinese cabbage

1. Cultivation season: early-maturing varieties are generally sown in the early and middle of August, and some are sown as early as late July. Medium-maturing varieties can be sown from late August to early September. Late-maturing varieties should be sowed in late August.

2. Land selection and preparation: continuous cropping of Chinese cabbage is prone to disease, so it is necessary to carry out rotation, especially advocating rotation of grain and vegetable, rotation of flood and drought. In the perennial vegetable field, continuous cropping with cruciferous vegetables should be avoided, and the previous stubble should be cultivated in the fields of early bean, early pepper, early cucumber and early tomato. The land for growing Chinese cabbage should be ploughed 20-27 cm deep for 10-15 days, and then the land should be smashed and leveled into beds 1.3-1.7 meters wide, or 0.8 meters narrow and high. When making a border, it is necessary to deep open the border ditch, waist ditch, surround the ditch more than 27 cm, so that the ditch is interlinked.

3. Heavy application of base fertilizer, mainly organic fertilizer: in mid-and late July, after the previous harvest, turn the soil deeply into the Kang land, and when preparing the soil, apply 100-150 kg lime per mu. In the land where root swelling disease occurs, an appropriate amount of lime must be applied in the sowing ditch. It is required to re-apply base fertilizer and mix well with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In early July, 40 kilograms of pig manure per mu, 40-50 kilograms of garbage, 75 kilograms of withered vegetables, 40-50 kilograms of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus mixed well with 30-40 load of human feces and urine, and wet with the right amount of water, accumulation and fermentation, and then covered with a layer of plastic film, let it fully mature. When making a border, open a ditch and apply it. At the same time, 45% compound fertilizer of 10-15 kg per mu should be applied.

4. Sowing: Chinese cabbage generally uses direct seeding, but also can raise seedlings and transplant. Live broadcast is dominated by strip broadcasting, supplemented by on-demand. In order not to affect the cultivation season, seedling raising and transplanting can also be used when the previous stubble land is not available for a while. No matter which method is used, the soil must be fine and flat. The amount of seed used for direct seeding is about 200 grams per mu. Seedling transplant, each planting 1 mu of field, about 5-6% of the seedbed, multi-use sowing method, with a seed amount of 75-100 grams. After the direct broadcast, 40-50 per mu was used to bear the manure and urine of mature people, combined with the ground cover. Since then, watering once every morning and evening to keep the indigenous soil moist, seedlings can emerge in 3-4 days. The row spacing of Chinese cabbage should be determined according to different varieties. Generally, early-maturing varieties are 33-50 × 33 cm, with 2100-2300 seedlings per mu, and late-maturing varieties are 67-50 cm, with less than 2000 seedlings per mu. The best choice for seedling transplanting is cloudy or sunny evening. In order to improve the survival rate, it is best to transplant seedlings with soil and pour fixed root water after planting.

Fertilizer and Water Management of Chinese Cabbage

1. Seedling stage: the root system of Chinese cabbage is weak and shallow in the seedling stage, and the dry weather should be watered in time to keep the ground moist, so as to facilitate the seedlings to absorb water and prevent excessive surface temperature from burning the roots. At the same time, in order to ensure sufficient nutrients at seedling stage, high nitrogen compound fertilizer was applied 3-5kg per mu.

2. Rosette stage: the rosette stage of Chinese cabbage needs more water, and the ground is dry and wet, which promotes and controls the growth of rosette leaves. In order to meet the nutritional needs of rapid growth of Chinese cabbage at rosette stage, it is generally combined with watering and 10 kg / mu of high nitrogen compound fertilizer is applied.

3. Heading period: Chinese cabbage needs the most water during the heading period, so it should be watered at the right time. In the later stage of heading, watering should be controlled to facilitate storage. In order to promote the heading to be big and fruiting, heavy fertilizer can be applied once in the shallow ditch in the middle of the border in the early stage of heading, generally applying 20kg of high nitrogen and high potassium compound fertilizer per mu.

Distribution of producing areas of Chinese Cabbage

Chinese cabbage is widely cultivated in all parts of China, with North China and the south of the Yangtze River as the main producing areas, accounting for 40% and 60% of the sown area of autumn, winter and spring vegetables.

Chinese cabbage is a widely distributed vegetable, and there are many kinds of cabbage, and there are some differences in the kinds that may be planted in different places. Therefore, when we plant cabbage, we need to choose according to the specific varieties and planting areas to maximize planting benefits.
