Summer squash planting is divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing, spring sowing time is generally in February-March every year, autumn sowing time is generally in August-September every year, common planting methods include open field cultivation, ground cover cultivation and greenhouse cultivation.

Zucchini must be very familiar to everyone, it is also called white melon or winter squash in some places, is a very favorite vegetable, zucchini eating methods are many, not only can be fried directly to eat, but also can be eaten cold, with zucchini market demand is increasing, there are also many growers into this industry, before planting zucchini melon, we must first understand its planting time.

Zucchini planting time

Zucchini is divided into spring sowing or autumn sowing, spring sowing is generally planted in February-March, and autumn sowing is generally planted in August-September, but most of the zucchini are mainly spring sowing, there are three main cultivation methods, namely open field cultivation, ground cover cultivation and greenhouse cultivation, etc., zucchini cultivation is divided into seedling and planting, generally, zucchini seedlings can be planted when they are 3 leaves and 1 heart.

When does zucchini come in?

For autumn sowing, the sowing period is in mid-August, planting in mid-September, harvesting in mid-October, pulling seedlings in mid-February of the following year, and harvesting supply period is about 120 days.

The growing habits of zucchini

1, temperature: zucchini growth temperature in 20-25 degrees is more appropriate, 15 degrees below will lead to slow growth, 8 degrees below will directly stop growing. Above 30 degrees will also cause slow growth and disease. The suitable temperature for germination of zucchini seeds is 25-30 degrees Celsius. When the temperature reaches 13 degrees Celsius, it can germinate, but it is very slow. If the temperature is 30-35 degrees Celsius, it will germinate very fast, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to cause excessive growth. The flowering and fruiting period of zucchini should have a higher temperature, the suitable temperature range is 22-25 degrees, the lowest temperature for root growth is 6 degrees, the lowest temperature for root hair generation is 12 degrees, and the night temperature is 8-10 degrees.

2. Light: Zucchini has moderate requirements for light intensity and can withstand weak light, but when the light is insufficient, it is easy to cause zucchini to grow excessively. It belongs to short-day plants, which are more conducive to stem and leaf growth under long-day conditions, while under short-day conditions, the melon period is earlier.

Humidity: Zucchini likes humid environment, not resistant to drought, easy to occur virus disease under high temperature and drought conditions, and easy to occur powdery mildew under high temperature and high humidity conditions.

4, soil: zucchini on the soil requirements are not high, general sand, clay and loam can be cultivated planting, soil layer thick loam is easier to obtain high yield.

Cultivation techniques of summer squash

1. Soil preparation and fertilization: mainly organic fertilizer, 2000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer, 40 kg of compound fertilizer, 80 kg of plant ash and 75 kg of cake fertilizer are generally applied per mu of land. The method is to spread the fertilizer evenly on the ground, and then level the ground after deep turning 30 cm.

2. Furrowing and whole ridge: adopt the method of deep ditch and high ridge and plastic film mulching cultivation. Generally, the ridge width is 100 cm, the ridge height is 20 cm, and the groove width is 25-30 cm. Leveling the surface of the bed again and spraying with herbicide before covering. When covering the film, remember to tighten it and then cover it flat, so that the film and the ridge surface are tightly covered, and the surrounding of the film is compacted with soil. After soil preparation, fertilization and ridge covering, 45% chlorothalonil smoke agent is used before planting, and the amount of smoke is about 1kg per mu. The greenhouse is closed for 7-10 days.

3, timely planting: generally in mid-March planting, when the seedlings have 3 leaves and 1 heart or 4 leaves just opened, the seedling age can be planted in about 1 month. Small varieties are planted in double rows according to plant spacing of 40×40 cm, about 1800 plants per mu. Large varieties are planted in double rows according to plant spacing of 50×50 cm, about 1600 plants per mu. One day before planting, irrigate the seedbed thoroughly, select strong seedlings and good seedlings, transplant the roots with soil as much as possible, make the roots stretch normally when planting, irrigate the roots after planting, and cover the planting holes tightly with fine soil, and then irrigate once a day until the seedlings survive.

4, temperature management: slow seedling stage do not ventilate, mainly to increase the temperature of the shed, promote rooting. It is best to keep the temperature of the shed at 25~28 ℃ during the day and 18~20 ℃ at night. When the temperature exceeds 30 ℃ at noon on sunny days, proper ventilation should be carried out. After the slow seedling, the greenhouse temperature should be controlled at 20-25 ℃ during the day and 12-15 ℃ at night, which is beneficial to the differentiation of female flowers and early setting of melons. After sitting melon, keep the temperature to 22-26 degrees during the day, 15-18 degrees at night, and the minimum temperature is not lower than 10 degrees. The advantage of increasing the temperature difference between day and night is conducive to nutrient accumulation and melon expansion.

5. Pollination and fruit preservation: The temperature in early spring is generally low. At this time, artificial pollination should be adopted. Generally, before 9 a.m., the male flowers opened on that day should be removed from the corolla, and then gently smeared on the stigma of female flowers. Plant hormones such as anti-falling element and fruit spirit can also be used according to the instructions.

6, fertilizer and water management: according to the soil moisture, timely watering, if there is a lack of fertilizer in the later stage, you can also break the film and then apply 10-15 kg compound fertilizer per mu or directly spray foliar fertilizer.

7, timely harvest: zucchini is mainly to eat tender melon, so to meet the requirements of market sales should be timely harvest, vigorous plants can be appropriate to leave more melon, leave big melon, and long plants should be appropriate late harvest melon, weak plants leave less melon, early harvest melon. When picking, be careful not to damage the main vine, and it is best to leave the handle on the main vine.

As mentioned above, the planting time of zucchini is generally around March or September of each year. According to the climate of different regions, the planting time will also vary slightly. Planting is more critical. In order to improve yield, proper fertilization in the later stage is also essential.
