Macadamia nut shoots 3 or 4 times a year. In southern Guangxi and western Guangdong, young macadamia nut trees shoot more than 4 times a year. On average, it takes about 40 days for each shoot to mature, and the interval between new shoot ripening and the next shoot sprouting is 18 color 28 days. Adult fruiting trees, in Guangzhou and western Guangdong, shoot three times a year, spring shoot in peak season in April, summer shoot in late June, autumn shoot in late October, in addition, there are a few sporadic shoots in the canopy every month of the year. Macadamia nuts grow slowly in the high temperature season from mid-July to late August, and low-temperature varieties, such as 508 and 344, often have difficulty in changing color, resulting in physiological diseases from yellowing to whitening leaves. From the end of December to the end of February of the following year, there is almost no shoot phenomenon in the normal year.

Macadamia nut shoots are generally 30 meters long and 50 centimeters long and have 10 nodes. Young trees or some varieties with exuberant growth have a maximum shoot length of more than 1.0 meters. Most of the fruiting branches of macadamia nuts are 1.5-3-year-old branches, especially the young trees with initial fruiting, a small number of fruiting branches or even branchlets a few centimeters long. There is an obvious leafless node at the base of the shoot, and the top of the shoot is an immature leaf, small and scaly, with three vertically arranged buds in each axil. When these buds sprout at the same time as the main branch, 9 (or 12) branches will appear. This phenomenon occurs from time to time, but usually only three buds on the top of the trefoil germinate at the same time.
