Rosemary has many effects, can be used as medicine, cooking, tea are good choices, so now many people like to grow it. However, when planting, you need to have a comprehensive understanding of its planting techniques.

Rosemary cultivation methods

1, temperature: heat and cold. It likes warm climate and can adapt to a large temperature range, which can grow well within 20~30℃, especially when there is no cold snap in autumn and winter. It can also grow smoothly in summer, but the growth rate is slower during high temperature on the ground.

2, soil: rich in sandy drainage is good. Mediterranean plants all need good drainage, rosemary is no exception, so the soil is best with smooth drainage sandy soil. Or can also be added to the culture soil coconut shell powder, coarse sand, vermiculite, pearl stone and other media smooth drainage.

3, layering propagation: the use of rosemary stems can produce adventitious root characteristics, the plant close to the ground branches bent cover the soil, leaving the top in the air, to grow new roots, cut from the mother, form a new individual, planted to the open field.

4. Planting: In order to ensure the high quality and high yield of rosemary, it is advisable to select acidic sandy loam with sufficient sunshine for planting, and apply sufficient decomposed organic fertilizer before planting. Plant spacing was 50 cm ×35 cm.

5. Fertilizer: apply long-acting liquid fertilizer once every two weeks. Most vanilla plants do not need fertilizer, rosemary is a little more fertilizer. Long-lasting liquid fertilizers can be selected and applied once every two weeks.

6, watering: dry every day to water. Although rosemary is more drought-tolerant, it requires a lot of water. If it is too dry, the leaves will become thinner and thinner, and the fragrance will be less concentrated. Water it almost every day, and in winter wait until the soil dries.

Notes on Rosemary

1. Do not pour water. In fact, the flower friends are watering according to experience, the flower friends who raise rosemary for the first time need to pay attention to, summer high temperature, although need more watering, but can not irrigate water, the plant is easy to wilt, growth slows down. In addition, perennial plants, improper watering will also occur in this case.

2. Do not use fertilizer. Rosemary needs to be applied with sufficient fertilizer after flowering to promote its flowering, but it is best not to use chemical fertilizer to avoid burning seedlings.

Rosemary pruning tips

Rosemary can grow to 1 or 2 meters tall if not pruned, suitable for outdoor fencing, but the whole plant will be slightly messy due to overgrowth of branches, timely pruning can maintain ventilation, so that the posture is better. The pruned rosemary can be used in cooking or supplies, but pay attention to pruning the top part of the tender stem, not too long, and do not cut the lignified part; if it is harvested too frequently or cut too short, it will cause the plant to germinate and bloom again. Also note that the wound juice will become sticky, and gloves and long-sleeved clothing can be worn when harvesting to avoid skin allergy. Wash hands immediately after touching and avoid touching eyes.

How does Rosemary reproduce?

1. Rosemary cutting propagation. It is necessary to select fresh and healthy stems that have not been completely lignified for cutting propagation. Most of them occur in winter to early spring. Cut the rosemary branches about 10-15 cm from the top, then remove about a third of the leaves below the branches. The branches are then inserted directly into the moist medium, the minimum night temperature of the cuttings is 13 degrees Celsius, roots will be produced after about 3-4 weeks, and they can be planted in the open field after 7 weeks.

2. Layered propagation of rosemary. Bend the branches of rosemary plants close to the ground and cover them with soil, exposing the tops of the plants to the air. When new roots grow, they can be cut off from the mother to form new individuals, which can be planted in the open air.

Rosemary planting can generally start from the growth habits, in the selection of an appropriate time for sowing. In the later stage of planting, we should strengthen the management of fertilizer and water. Too much or too little is not good. Rosemary propagation methods are many, mainly cutting and layering, we can choose one of them to carry out.
