Poinsettia is a unique ornamental plant, because the leaf color is festive, so it can be used to arrange the activity venue and increase the atmosphere, so it is very popular. Friends who plant it will choose the way of cutting propagation, and cutting propagation can be subdivided into three kinds, so let's take a look at the specific methods of cutting propagation.

How does poinsettia reproduce?

1. Cutting propagation: there are mainly two ways of cutting propagation of poinsettia: semi-hardwood cutting and tender wood cutting, as well as old root cutting.

2. Striping propagation: striping propagation is a method of pressing the branches close to the ground into the soil, and the higher branches are wrapped (or cut) with moist materials such as moss, and after they take root, they are separated from the mother plant to form a new plant. The method of high pressure reproduction is generally adopted.

Cutting propagation method of poinsettia

1. Semi-hardwood cuttings: select annual semi-lignified branches, about 10 cm long, cut off the leaves at the lower end, cut the base into an oblique mouth and disinfect. Then the branches were inserted into the soil, watered thoroughly, and the temperature was controlled at 22-24 ℃. After 20 days, they could take root.

You can cut a few more branches each time, and you'd better choose a pot plant with better growth.

2. Softwood cuttings: cut the branches of the same year, there are 6-8 leaves on the branches, select 6-8-cm branches, and retain 3-4 leaves. After pruning, put it in clean water to prevent the sap from flowing out of the stem.

After soaking for 2 minutes, directly cutting poinsettia rooting process to keep the leaves moist, often sprinkle water, appropriate shade. Most varieties can take root after 14-18 days.

3. Old root cutting: when turning the basin, cut off the old root and cut it into a root segment of about 10 cm, disinfect the root and insert it directly in the soil (it is easier to sprout new buds if there are a small amount of root whiskers on the old root.

As for the cuttage container, try to choose a deeper flowerpot so that the roots can be fully extended in the soil. There is no need for shade after cutting. after a month, it can sprout and grow new leaves. When the plant grows to about 10 cm, it can be planted in a pot and maintained normally after a slow seedling period of 5-10 days.

Planting method of poinsettia

1. Soil: poinsettia can be made from a mixture of culture soil, rotten leaf soil and sand, or peat soil, carbonized rice husk and coarse river sand at the ratio of 3:1:1. Slightly acidic soil is better, and the addition of appropriate amount of calcium and magnesium fertilizer can make the red bracts more bright.

2. Water: poinsettia is sensitive to water. During the growing period, as long as the water supply is sufficient, the stems and leaves grow rapidly, sometimes the internodes are elongated and the leaves are narrow. On the contrary, the lack of water in the basin soil or sometimes dry and sometimes wet will cause the leaf yellow to fall off.

Therefore, the control of water is directly related to the growth and development of poinsettia.

3. Sunshine: poinsettia is a short-day plant. Sufficient sunlight is needed during the growth period of stems and leaves to promote the rapid growth of stems and leaves. To make the bracts turn red ahead of time, the daily light can be controlled within 12 hours to promote flower bud differentiation.

4. Temperature: the suitable temperature for the growth of poinsettia is 18-25 ℃, and the winter temperature should not be lower than 10 ℃, otherwise the bracts will turn blue, the basal leaves will turn yellow and fall off, and the phenomenon of "foot loss" will be formed. When the temperature rises in spring, branches can continue to sprout from the stem.

Matters needing attention in planting poinsettia

When planting poinsettia, pay attention to fertilization, fertilize once every half a month during the growing period, usually two weeks before flower bud differentiation, add 1 teaspoon of soluble fertilizer to each plant, and the fertilizer concentration should be reduced by half in winter.

The second is insect pests, whose main pests are whitefly, thrips, shell insects, aphids, etc., which can be controlled by relevant pesticides or acaricides, such as 1000-1500 times of triclofenac. In addition, the cultivation environment should be kept clean and weeds should be eliminated in time.

As mentioned above, poinsettia is not very difficult to grow. As long as you master the skills and do a good job of nursing, you will be able to succeed. Think about how good it is to plant a pot of poinsettia and put it at home. It not only edifies the sentiment, but also decorates the home, and the friends you like don't act quickly.
