When to plant peonies and how to raise them well
I believe that friends who like to grow flowers are very familiar with peonies. The ornamental value of peony flowers is very high, and it has the laudatory name of "national color and Tianxiang". Peony has always been praised by people of all ages, symbolizing splendor and wealth, and is deeply loved by flower friends. Today, let the editor popularize to you the basic knowledge of peony farming.
When will peony flowers be planted?
The characteristic of peony is "four appropriate four fears", that is, cold and cold, warm and hot, light and shade, dry and wet. Therefore, planting peonies should choose places with spacious ventilation, sunshine in the morning and fertile and loose soil, and should not be planted in stagnant water, shady wetlands and rubble.
When building a platform for planting, the size of the platform should be determined according to the number and size of plants, and the height should depend on the original topography and groundwater level. The general height is 50-100 cm, with stones or bricks as the platform foundation, and covered with some broken tiles or bricks. If the soil is sticky, culture soil should be used instead. The cultivated soil was mixed with 6 parts of land, 3 parts of rotten leaf soil and 1 part of rice chaff ash. Peony does not need to be irrigated after planting, let alone dung water. People can block the soil in winter to prevent the cold, and remove the soil after the warmth of spring to facilitate growth.
How to raise peony flowers well
1. Planting: the soil is required to be loose, fertile and neutral. Cut off the broken and diseased roots of the planted peony seedlings, soak the insecticidal and fungicides into the prepared pot or pit, stretch the root system, fill to the pot or pit, gently shake the seedlings, firmly seal the soil, and the depth of the rhizome is slightly lower than the basin surface or horizon.
2. Watering: water once after planting. Peony avoid stagnant water, appropriate watering during the growing season. In the arid areas of northern China, water before flowering, water after flowering and frozen water are generally watered. Potted plants can be cut off after blooming and buried in pots for easy management.
3. Fertilization: one year after planting, it is feasible to apply fertilizer in autumn, mainly mature organic fertilizer. It can be combined with loosening soil, spreading and acupoint application. Chemical fertilizers are often used in spring and summer, combined with watering before and after flowering. Potted plants can be combined with watering to apply liquid fertilizer.
4. Pruning: multiple rows of stubble in the same year of planting. After germination in spring, about 5 branches will be left, and the rest will be wiped out to concentrate nutrition so as to make the flowers of the second year big and colorful. Autumn and winter, combined with Qingyuan, cut off the dry flower stalk, thin, non-flowering branches. When potted, trim it to your favorite shape as needed.
5. Intermediate ploughing: ploughing in time during the growing season, pulling out weeds and paying attention to the occurrence of diseases and insects. In autumn and winter, ploughing is carried out on the sky blocks of more than two-year-old peony.
6. Change the pot: when the potted peony has grown for three or four years, it should be replaced in a large pot with new fertilizer soil or planted separately in autumn.
7. Spray: spray stone-sulfur mixture before germination in early spring, and use insecticidal and fungicide mixture in summer, once every 2 weeks depending on the condition. Combined with fertilization, chemical fertilizers and growth regulators should be added.
How to change the pots of peony
1. When to change the basin
If the flower is not very big, it can be changed once a year. If the flower is relatively large, only half of the soil can be changed every year, so that it will not be greatly affected and the risk of death can be avoided.
2. Selection of flowerpots
It is best to use a relatively deep tile basin to change the basin, according to its size to choose a suitable basin, in general, the basin should have 30cm to 40cm depth, the diameter of 25cm to 30cm is the best. In addition, we can put the hard plastic foam at the bottom of the basin to make the soil more breathable.
3. Preparation of soil
Because its roots are fleshy and relatively developed, it is easy to die if there is too much water, and if it is not nutritious enough, it will grow thinner and thinner, so you should choose well drained and cut thicker soil. it can be prepared with ordinary garden soil plus rotten leaves or sandy soil.
4. Plant treatment.
To wash its roots and soak them in a sterilized liquid for half an hour, it is best to add some rooting powder to the sterilized liquid, because its roots are longer and can be soaked in a container that allows it to stretch out. Take it out and dry it, then trim its roots, get rid of all the rotten roots and old roots, leave the new roots and thinner roots, and cut the roots shorter according to the size of the new basin.
5. Moderate watering
After changing the new pot, put it in a cool windy area, the branches and leaves also need to be properly pruned, and the diseased branches and thin branches need to be cut off, leaving 4-6 branches on each flower. After changing the basin, water it thoroughly, usually when the soil on the surface is a little white, do not sprinkle too much water.
6. Rational fertilization
After replacing it with a new basin, you should add fertilizer to it to help it recover better. In daily maintenance, it is necessary to add animal manure or cake fertilizer once a month from the beginning of May, and sprinkle it with ferrous sulfate once or twice when it rains.
Matters needing attention in peony culture
1. No shade during flowering
When peony flowers are in full bloom, it is not appropriate to leave them unshaded. During this period, if it is not properly shaded and exposed to the sun, the flowering period of the peony will be greatly shortened, and the blooming flowers will lose their luster, which will reduce the ornamental quality of the peony.
2. Leave the room too early in spring
Peonies should not leave the room too early when it comes to spring. In the spring, although the temperature has slowly begun to pick up, but sometimes there will be low temperature weather. The normal flowering time of peony flowers is from April to May, depending on the curing temperature. If the peony leaves the room too early, once it encounters a low temperature, its flower buds will stop growing or even fall off, and serious plants will die.
3. Soil stagnant water
Peony itself is fleshy root, more afraid of stagnant water. In the cultivation of peony flowers, if there is the phenomenon of too much watering, it is easy to cause rotten roots, affecting plant growth and flowering. When watering the peonies, we must pay attention to the right amount at the right time to ensure that the soil is slightly moist, and drainage should be strengthened in the rainy season.
4. Improper pruning
Reasonable pruning is a necessary process for peony flowers to bloom. Improper pruning will lead to small, dark and deformed peony flowers. When pruning peony flowers, we should cut off the terminal buds, retain the lateral buds, and cut off the residual flowers after the flower fade, so as to avoid nutrient consumption.
When people raise a kind of flower, they hope that the plant can move from sowing healthily to the end of the flowering period. Although this situation is not very difficult to achieve, peony is one of the more delicate plants, so it needs more attention from flower friends in the process of maintenance.
