Pitcher plant is a relatively rare species in the process of family maintenance, and few ordinary people will raise it. But in fact, pitcher plant is a kind of plant with high ornamental value and medicinal value, and it is also a kind of plant that can catch insects. How can we have such a strange plant? The first thing you need to master is its watering method.

How to water the pitcher plant (how often)

1. Watering frequency

Pitcher plants are very strict in moisture requirements, watering time should be strictly controlled, can not be too dense and have to water. Try to keep the soil moist. As for the time of watering, water it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Remember not to water at noon.

2. Watering method

Pot watering: directly into the soil, try to avoid watering flowers and leaves.

Immersion watering: in order to avoid the loss of nutrients in the soil, soak the basin into water and make the soil moist.

Cutting propagation method of pitcher plant

1. Pruning

The first thing to do is to cut the branches, the branches must have bud points, that is, there is a leaf. There are usually two or three bud spots on the branches. Then cut off part of the leaves on the branches, that is, 1/2 to 2/3 of the leaves are cut perpendicular to the veins. This step is very important, do not be reluctant to give up the green leaves and cutting failure, but do not cut off completely, because the leaves themselves consume nutrients but can also produce the nutrients needed by the root hormones, if there are no leaves will never be successful.

2. Treatment of incisions

When cutting branches, try to keep the incision flat, it is better to use sharp scissors, cut off vertically. Cutting branches is not oblique, to reduce the injured area of branches, to cut too large it is easy to be infected by microorganisms.

To wait until the cut to dry before cutting, generally 1-2 days.

Third, cutting methods

1. Cultivated soil

The culture soil used for cutting is preferably new soil to reduce bacterial infection. Water moss or peat is fine.

2. Cuttage

When the branch is inserted into the soil, when the branch has only one bud point, the cutting bud point should be exposed above the ground. If there are two or three bud points, the lowest bud point should be inserted into the soil. In order to make the plant grow better, a little rooting agent can be applied on the incision before cutting, which can not only improve the survival rate, but also reduce the probability of infection.

Family culture method of pitcher plant

1. Temperature

Pitcher plants are tropical plants that like high temperatures and grow rapidly at 20-30 degrees Celsius. However, when the temperature is too low, the growth of pitcher plants stops. In order to avoid freezing in winter, protective measures should be taken to ensure that the indoor temperature is not lower than 10 ℃.

2. Light

Although pitcher plants are tropical plants, they can grow in the sun, but they are afraid of strong light. Pay attention to sunscreen in summer, and the usual way is to set up a sunscreen. But do not directly move the pitcher plant to the shade in order to avoid strong light. If the pitcher plant has less light, the plant grows slowly, and the pitcher plant is small or even non-existent, it is not the so-called pitcher plant.

3. Moisture

The growth of pitcher plant needs a lot of water, which is watered 2-3 times a day in summer with high temperature. Spray as much water as possible on the branches and leaves. When the temperature is low, properly reduce the watering times and keep the soil moist.

4. Nutrients

In fact, pitcher plants can grow well without fertilizer, but fertilization will be stronger and grow faster. Organic fertilizer should be applied properly, but it should be watered in time after fertilization. There is no organic fertilizer can also choose ordinary chemical fertilizer, but to apply less, fertilize too much, will cause plant wilt. Or apply leaf fertilizer, the fertilizer effect is better.

How pitcher plants survive the winter

The first point

The southern winter temperature is relatively high, the temperature standard can be put in the outdoor maintenance, when the temperature is lower than 10 ℃ can be considered to move to the indoor.

The second point

Cold winter in the north, there will be freezing outside, when you put the pitcher plant indoor maintenance, do not put it to the window, the temperature is low, the water vapor around the window is heavy, and the temperature on one side of the window is low, which is not conducive to the growth of pitcher plants.

The third point

When the sun comes out in the morning, move to the outside, and then move to the house in the evening to ensure that you can receive sunlight during the day. The sun is weak in winter, so you can usually bask in the sun all day. If you want to let the pitcher plant spend the night outside, you can also use plastic film to wrap the whole pitcher plant, and then wrap it with a layer of newspaper, which should be thicker to avoid cold.

The fourth point

If you are in the north, with enough money and plenty of time, you can use heating rods to increase the temperature appropriately. Of course, there is less sun in winter, so you can make up the light manually and use fluorescent lamps (there is still a certain cost! )

Although there is a certain emphasis on watering methods in the process of raising pitcher plants, if the cage wilt is not necessarily the cause of watering, it may also be the normal reaction of the plant. Generally speaking, the cages of pitcher plants wither every 2-3 months, so you can rest assured.
