Sweet potato is a very common food in our life, because it is a high-yield crop and has a short planting period, it is very popular with growers. However, do you know when and how to plant sweet potatoes? Take a look at it with the editor!

When will sweet potatoes be planted?

The suitable time for transplanting seedlings is in the middle of April, when the temperature in early spring is basically stable, and the suitable time for planting seedlings is when the ground temperature of 10 cm is more than 15 ℃ after the end of late frost, ploughing and tanning early last winter or the beginning of the year, and then set up ridges when planting.

The transplanting time should not exceed April 20, otherwise the harvest time will be delayed and the transplanting season of continuous cropping late rice will be affected. Under suitable conditions, the earlier the seedlings are planted, the longer the growing period is, the earlier the tubers are, the more tubers are, the longer the root expands, the higher the yield, the better the quality; the later the seedlings are planted, the shorter the growing period, the less and small the sweet potato, the lower the yield and the poor quality; the suitable time for transplanting seedlings is when the ground temperature of 10 cm is above 15 ℃ after the end of the late frost, and the plastic film mulching can start to plant seedlings properly.

Planting methods and matters needing attention of sweet potato

1. Digging holes. Sweet potatoes need more space than other horticultural vegetables. Each acupoint is 30-60 apart. Centimeters. The depth is 3 cm above the base of the plant to the root of the tuber.

2. Planting. Place the sweet potato seedlings one by one in a pre-dug hole and cover the stem with about 1.5 cm of soil. The leaves of sweet potatoes will grow vines, while the roots will grow tubers 15-30 centimeters deep in the soil.

3. Cover the film. Protect your sweet potatoes in cold weather by covering them with film. This will also help prevent the growth of weeds and the overgrowth of sweet potato vines and rob the tubers of nutrition.

4. Watering. When sweet potatoes are first planted, they need a lot of water. Over time, you should water them less until you only water them about once a week. Start watering every day, and then reduce the frequency of watering week by week.

5. Wait for the tuber to grow up. Sweet potatoes need a relatively long period of growth and can not be harvested until early autumn. Continue to water and weed every week to make the plants grow healthily.

6. Harvest sweet potatoes. About 120 days after planting, the sweet potato should have reached full maturity. If possible, delay harvesting sweet potatoes as much as possible (before the frost), as this will produce bigger and more delicious tubers.

7. Post-harvest treatment of sweet potato. After the sweet potato harvest, must carry on the post-treatment. This is an important step. This makes sweet potatoes more fragrant (they have no fragrance when they are first dug up) and the skin is tougher. Place sweet potatoes at a temperature of 29-35 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 80-90% for 5-10 days. After that, they can be cooked and eaten! A heater and humidifier can be placed in the closet or in a small room to post-process the harvested sweet potatoes.

8. Store your sweet potatoes. One of the benefits of these lovely tubers is that if they are stored properly, they can stay fresh for many months and still taste good. Store them in an open, dry, temperature around 21 degrees Celsius (which means don't refrigerate! ). Never store sweet potatoes in a plastic bag or sealed container.

Management methods in the later stage of Sweet Potato planting

1. Prevent grubs before planting.

2. Weed immediately after planting, check and replenish seedlings 3-5 days after planting to ensure the whole seedling.

3. Cultivate the soil in time in the early stage of growth, generally ploughing for 2-3 times, combined with soil cultivation to support the ridge; selenium-rich purple sweet potato is most afraid of waterlogging, which must be eliminated in time. When the drought is serious, we should fight it in time when there are conditions. After closing the ridges, pull up the grass.

4. Do not turn the vine, protect the stems and leaves, and lift the vine. Sweet potato vines due to damage to stems and leaves, the production of less nutrients, at the same time, vines will also cause leaf overturning overlap, dense, hurt the top tip of seedlings, promote axillary buds to produce new branches and leaflets, reduce photosynthetic efficiency, generally reduce yield by 10% and 20%. In order to protect the stems and leaves of sweet potato and promote the expansion of tuber roots, it is generally not necessary to turn vines except for weeding in the early stage. In the rainy season, potato vines are easy to breed adventitious roots and disperse nutrients. We should gently lift the seedling vines and put them back to the original place, so as to inhibit the growth of adventitious roots and concentrate nutrients in potato pieces. Avoid breaking and trampling on sweet potato vines when lifting vines.

5. Timely control of aphids, sweet potato leaf rollers, Spodoptera litura, beetles and other pests.

6. Promote the expansion of potato cubes. In the middle and late September, the temperature began to drop, and the root absorption capacity was poor, while the sweet potato had the greatest demand for potassium fertilizer. The main way to supplement potassium was foliar spraying, applying 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution 75kg or 7% plant ash leaching solution 150kg per mu.

There will be disastrous weather in July, September and October, so it is necessary to do a good job in flood prevention and drought prevention. Purple sweet potato likes warm climate. The suitable temperature for stem and leaf growth is 18-25 ℃, and stops growing when the temperature is below 15 ℃. The optimum soil temperature for root tuber growth was 22 ~ 24 ℃, and stopped expanding when the ground temperature was lower than 20 ℃. Purple sweet potato is a short-day crop, which needs sufficient light and high intensity. The suitable soil moisture during the growth period of purple sweet potato is 60%-80% of the maximum field capacity.

Storage methods of Sweet Potato

There are two storage methods of sweet potato, namely, high temperature storage and low temperature storage.

The main results are as follows: 1. The high temperature storage method is that after the red mackerel enters the cellar, the fire is heated to 35-38 ℃ and kept for 2-3 days to kill the bacteria such as black spot and soft rot. Then lower the temperature to 10-14 ℃ for storage. The effect of this method is very good, but the cost is high, and it is troublesome to operate, so the low temperature storage method of chemical treatment is more suitable for household storage.

2. In the method of low temperature storage, the vetch cellar was disinfected one week before the red oyster entered the cellar. Spray disinfection in the cellar can be carried out with 70% topiramate 1000 times or 50% carbendazim 800 times. After the red mackerel is harvested, it should be dealt with in time and go into the cellar in time. Red oyster can be soaked with 1000 times of thiophanate or 50% of carbendazim at 1:1, and then removed to dry into the cellar. Third, after entering the cellar, various methods were used to keep the temperature in the cellar below 15 ℃ and above 10 ℃. When the temperature in the cellar is lower than 15 ℃, it can inhibit the activity of bacteria, which is higher than 10 ℃, which can avoid freezing injury and achieve the purpose of safe storage.

It turns out that the best planting time for sweet potatoes is mid-April. Do not look at a small sweet potato, it also takes a lot of effort to grow! In the article, the editor expounds some matters needing attention in the cultivation of sweet potatoes, hoping to be helpful to you.
