Mulberry is deeply loved by consumers because of its high edible value and good taste. Now there are a lot of people who want to grow mulberries. However, when planting, many people will cause a series of problems because their personal skills are not in place, so how to plant mulberry in the end in order to make it grow well and get more results?

How to grow mulberry

1. Site conditions: the adaptability of fruit mulberry is strong, no matter it is planted on yellow cotton soil, sandy loam or loam, it can grow healthily. The better the water, fertilizer and light are, the higher the yield is.

2. Variety selection: fresh mulberry is the main variety, and seedless big ten and Hongguo No. 2 should be planted. The former has good fruit taste and ripens early, while the latter has high yield and is more hardy. For the purpose of processing mulberry juice, Hongguo No. 1, Hongguo 2, 8632 should be selected. Hongguo No. 1 is hardy and extremely high-yielding. Note that no matter which variety is planted, 5-10% of the male plants must be used as pollination trees.

3. Planting density: seedless big ten varieties had soft branches and loose tree shape, adopting the form of row spacing 150cm and plant spacing 120cm (370plants per mu), while other varieties had erect branches and compact tree shape, adopting the form of 130cm × 100cm or 130cm × 130cm.

4. Planting: the cultivation period is from the defoliation in late autumn to the beginning of spring germination in the following year. Leveling the land, digging grooves deep in 50cm according to the row spacing, and applying soil miscellaneous fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer. Separate the size of the purchased mulberry seedlings, arrange the fruit trees and pollination trees reasonably, and pour enough water after planting.

Mulberry planting methods and matters needing attention

1. Planting methods:

It is most suitable to sow seeds from February to March. First, the soil 3 inches wide of the mulberry line will be fully broken and fully watered, and then the mulberry seeds will be sown along the mulberry line on demand. The sowing amount will be 2 million taels per mu (6 seeds per 3 inch), and the seeds will be covered with mud powder. Finally, the grass will be covered with water. Interplanting cash crops such as soybeans, peanuts and vegetables between rows (do not get too close to mulberry seedlings), interplanting crops can be carried out at the same time of sowing, or appropriately ahead of schedule, so as not to affect the growth of mulberry trees.

2. points for attention:

After sowing, pay attention to watering in the seedling stage, weed and fertilize in time, and fertilize in time after interplanting crops, and silkworms can be reared soon. In order to raise trees, they were not felled in summer that year, and cut about 1.5 feet above the ground in winter. 7000 trees per mu (row spacing 2.1 mi 2.4 ft, plant spacing 4 mi 5 inches) were cut down to retain enough strong trees, and the surplus seedlings were dug up for sale or self-planted, and winter fertilizer was applied again.

How to trim mulberry

1. Pruning. It is usually carried out during winter dormancy, cutting off dead fists, withered stakes, disease and insect branches, thin branches and so on. The part of the cut should be close to the branch intersection and the cut should be smooth.

2. Take out the core. The tender core at the top of the new shoot needs to be removed in the spring silkworm period. if it is a late-growing mulberry, it is generally carried out on a sunny day about 10-15 days before the leaves are used, while the early mulberry trees are carried out about a week before the leaves are used. The tender core of two leaves should be removed from the early leaves, and the tender core of one leaf can be removed from those with late leaves.

Common insect pests of mulberry and their control

1. Mulberry longicorn beetles: hook killing, egg hunting, protection of natural enemies, artificial hunting

2. Beetles: artificial control: make use of the false death of adults to vibrate branches in the evening to kill landing adults. Physical control: make use of the phototaxis of adults, hang black light to trap and kill adults at 7-10:00 in the evening. Horticultural control: combined with winter ploughing, soil preparation, picking up larvae, pupae and adults. Chemical control: during the adult damage period, spray 50% methamidophos 800-1000 times, or 50% phoxim 800-100 times, 40% omethoate emulsion 1000 times, spray every 2-3 days during the adult outbreak period, and spray continuously for 2-3 days. In this way, it can basically prevent the harm of beetles and other pests.

When planting mulberries, we must do a good job in site selection, and then plant them timely. After planting, it is necessary to strengthen management, timely pruning and pest control are very important. Only when these jobs are done well can mulberries grow healthily.
