Saffron is a very famous flower variety, it has a certain ornamental value, and its medicinal value can not be ignored, generally with stamens as medicine, really because of this, it attracts a lot of people to plant. Many people do not know the specific planting time and method when planting saffron, so let's get to know it together.

How to grow saffron bulbs

1. Select the seed ball. The residual flowers should be picked immediately after blooming in spring to avoid nutrient consumption, and the compound fertilizer solution dominated by phosphorus and potassium should be applied once or twice to promote the growth and firmness of bulb roots and continue to maintain normally. In summer, the aboveground parts are withered and yellow, and the bulbs are taken out and dried and stored.

2. Save the seed ball. Cut off the residual leaves at the top, remove the remains of the mother bulb, then move them into the room, grade them according to size, and put them on the indoor plaque frame. There is no need to bury the soil, the bulb bud mouth up, flat in the plaque, there is a slight gap between the bulbs.

3. Indoor pot ramets. In autumn, those with bulbs can split according to the shape of the bulbs. Break it open directly with your hands and plant it in a pot.

4. Maintenance after dividing the ball. After dividing the ball, appropriately increase the indoor air humidity and keep the soil moist. Promote seed germination. After mid-August, when the temperature drops, there is generally no need to take cooling measures. The suitable temperature of saffron is 15: 18 ℃. Controlling the indoor temperature after dividing the ball can promote flowering.

When will saffron be planted?

Saffron grows in winter and spring, with two varieties: autumn flowering and spring ring opening, which are usually planted from September to October every year.

How can saffron be rich in water?

1. Watering: crocuses are usually planted in autumn and are growing in winter and spring. The climate is cold and dry and needs proper watering. Seedlings emerge about 20 days after planting, and water is poured once before emergence to facilitate seedling emergence. Pour antifreeze water before winter to increase the temperature of the soil. Water is watered once in mid-April to reduce the harm of dry and hot wind. Pay attention when watering, do not pour ice water when the temperature is low, the temperature of the water is the same as the room temperature, lest the basin soil freezes and affects the plant growth.

2. Fertilization: before planting saffron, a sufficient amount of base fertilizer should be added to the basin soil, such as cake fertilizer, stable fertilizer, burning soil, plant ash, chicken and duck manure, etc., as well as some superphosphate. After rooting, the thin liquid fertilizer with balanced nitrogen and phosphorus can be applied every 10 days. Fertilizer application avoid excessive concentration of fertilizer, so as not to cause excessive growth of leaves and affect the growth of flower buds. The balanced available fertilizer of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be applied once or twice after flowering in October to facilitate the growth and development of the corm.

Common diseases and control of saffron

1. Rust: high humidity is conducive to the occurrence of rust, and spores spread with the wind, overwintering with winter spores and winter spores on the diseased remains, infecting the leaves at low temperature or medium temperature and high humidity in late spring and early summer, causing leaf death. Prevention and control methods: seed treatment, seed dressing with 15% trimethoprim, dosage of 0.2%-0.4% of seed amount; cleaning the countryside, concentrated burning of disease and residue, rotation for more than 2-3 years; chemical control, spraying fungicides in time at the initial stage of the disease, spraying once in 7-10 days for 2-3 times in a row, and alternately spraying 0.1% solution of 20% triadimefon EC and 0.3 °stone-sulfur mixture of Baume.

2. Fusarium wilt: Fusarium wilt, also known as root rot, mainly harms the root. In the initial stage, the root shows brown spots and pink sticky matter on the surface of the stem, which finally leads to the rot of the basal cortex and fibrous root and the death of the plant. The patients with mild disease lost 10-20%, and those with severe disease could be destroyed in the whole field. Prevention and control methods: to strictly ensure that rotation is not continuous cropping, to maintain good soil drainage; timely removal of diseased plants and burning, disinfection of disease holes with lime; removal of litter and weeds in the field to eliminate overwintering pathogens; irrigation with 50% carbendazim, 50% dimethazone 0.17% 0.20% solution and so on.

In fact, the method of planting saffron is not difficult, first of all, we should do a good job of seed selection, and then sow seeds at the right time. After planting, we need to strengthen management, timely watering and fertilization, but also timely disease control, only by doing a good job of these, can we ensure that saffron grows better.
