Blueberry is a kind of blue berry, which is distributed in many countries in the world. It is a kind of fruit with excellent taste. In recent years, more and more people have begun to plant blueberries in China, but at the time of planting, many people are not very clear about its pruning time and pruning techniques, nor do they know whether it needs pesticides to protect the fruit.

Do blueberries need pesticides?

From the current planting situation, blueberry has a strong ability to resist diseases and insect pests, in general, the harm is not serious, except in the ripening period (pull protective net), basically do not need to use drug control. However, we do not rule out fighting, because blueberries are not 100% immune to diseases and insect pests, and once found, they need to be treated with pesticides. When using pesticides, we will choose pesticides according to different conditions, and then treat them.

Blueberries are best pruned in several months.

The best time to grow blueberry crops is autumn, around October of each year. Blueberry crops should be shaded properly after planting, otherwise the crops will be dehydrated, and growers should shade blueberry crops in time.

Pruning techniques of blueberries

First, pruning blueberries in high bushes.

1. Pruning in the young tree stage. The main purpose of this period is to remove flower buds in order to expand the crown, increase the number of branches and promote the development of root system. The weak and small branches were thinned in the spring of the second and third year after planting, and the crown was still enlarged in the third and fourth year, but it could bear fruit in an appropriate amount. In general, the plant yield in the third year should be controlled below 1 kg, mainly with strong branches.

2. Pruning mature trees. At this time, pruning is mainly to control tree height, improve light conditions, mainly thinning branches, thinning dense branches, thin and weak branches, disease and insect branches and root tillers. The root potential of the open variety was weaker and stronger than that of the open variety, while the erect variety went to the central stem, opened the skylight and left the middle branch. The best fruiting age of big branch is 5 ~ 6 years old, which should be retracted and renewed in time. Weak twigs wipe off flower buds to make them strong. Adult trees have a large number of flowers, so it is necessary to cut off part of the flower buds, generally leaving 2-3 flower buds for each strong branch.

3. The old tree is renewed. After about 25 years of planting, the aboveground part of the tree has aged and needs to be renewed, that is, all the aboveground parts will be sawed off close to the ground, and new branches will sprout from the base.

2. Pruning of dwarf blueberries

1. Fire scissors. That is, in the dormant period, all the aboveground parts are burned, new branches germinate again, flower buds are formed in that year, and blossom and bear fruit in the next year. After that, it was cut by fire every 2 years, and the fruit of strong branches was maintained all the time.

2. Flat stubble pruning. Before sprouting in early spring, the aboveground parts were cut off from the base of the plant, and the sawed branches were retained in the orchard, which could cover the soil and improve the organic matter.

Common diseases of blueberry and their control

1. Leaf spot disease: prevention and control measures: timely removal of diseased leaves and old leaves. The initial stage of the disease with 70% chlorothalonil wettable powder 500 ~ 700 times liquid, ten days later spray again. Or spray 75 kg of water with 70% mancozeb wettable powder, 200 grams per mu.

2. Powdery mildew: control measures: focus on spraying Baume 0.3 degree stone sulfur mixture in and around the disease center strain. After harvest, the leaves of the whole garden were cut and sprayed with 1000 times of thiophanate methyl or 5000 times of methamphetamine and 5000 times of Teflin.

3. Botrytis cinerea: control measures: from budding to flowering, spray with 25% carbendazim wettable powder 300 times, 50% carbendazim wettable powder 800 times, 50% propofol 500 times ~ 700 times, and so on.

4. Root rot: control countermeasures: before transplanting, strawberries were poured with 40% asparagus green powder 600 times, then covered with soil, leveled and transplanting, so as to effectively kill the bacteria in the soil, reduce the number of bacteria in the field, and reduce the chance of infection.

Generally speaking, blueberries need to be treated with pesticides once they find diseases and insect pests. It is important to prune blueberries when they are planted, which usually takes place in Akita every year. The method of pruning is also different because of the age of the tree, so we must pay more attention to it.
