Buckwheat is a relatively well-known cash crop, currently distributed in many countries in the world. There are also many people who grow buckwheat now, and many people want to grow it. However, before planting, everyone must want to have a comprehensive understanding of its planting methods and planting time. Let's take a look at it together!

When is buckwheat grown?

Buckwheat in China has been sown all year round: spring sowing, summer sowing, autumn sowing and winter sowing, also known as spring buckwheat, summer buckwheat, autumn buckwheat, winter buckwheat. (Note: Spring sowing is from the end of March to the beginning of May, autumn sowing will be completed from late July to early August, autumn sowing should be early, not delayed.) According to the maturity (growth period) of varieties, frost-free period and effective accumulated temperature>10℃, the suitable sowing date of buckwheat in each production area should avoid the local high temperature (>26℃) period in full bloom and ensure the maturity before frost.

Buckwheat planting technology

1. Select good seeds. It is advisable to select buckwheat varieties with growth period of 70-80 days and strong resistance, such as sweet buckwheat No.1, sweet buckwheat No.2, small safflower tartary buckwheat, etc. It is best to use new seeds harvested that year.

2. Seed treatment. 2-3 days before sowing, and then use warm soup soaking method for seed selection, that is, soaking in warm water of 40 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes, removing floating grains, sinking in the following full grains can be taken out and dried. In places where pests and diseases are serious, seed dressing can be carried out. In order to shorten the time from sowing to emergence, seed can be stored in warm soup for 1-2 days, and seeds can be sown immediately when they begin to germinate.

3. Fine soil preparation. Buckwheat seedlings have poor topsoil ability, weak root system development, and high requirements for soil preparation. We should do our best to cultivate and soil preparation.

4. Sowing method. Buckwheat sowing methods are mainly broadcast, sowing, drilling three kinds. Sowing can be divided into two types: first sowing seeds after ploughing and first sowing seeds after ploughing. Generally, 5000-6000 holes are sown per mu, with 10-15 seeds per hole. The sowing depth is generally 3-4 cm, the sowing rate is generally 2.5-3 kg per mu, and the sowing is about 5 kg per mu.

Field Management of Buckwheat

1. First, it is necessary to remove water and prevent drought. When sowing, ditch drainage should be carried out to prevent waterlogging and death of seedlings. In case of drought during emergence period, ditch irrigation should be carried out in time to moisten soil moisture, or dilute manure should be poured in the morning and evening before emergence.

2. Second, intertill and weed in time. After sowing, in case of rain, it is necessary to break the soil hardening layer in time. and weeded 2 times in seedling height 6-8 cm and before flowering.

3. Third, it is necessary to supplement fat and prevent aging. From flowering to fruiting stage, 0.5 kg urea, 200 g potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 60 kg water are sprayed 1-2 times per mu.

4. Auxiliary pollination. Buckwheat natural pollination seed set rate is low, flowering period should be assisted by artificial pollination. Bees can be pollinated or pulled back and forth gently on the upper layer of the plant with ropes or thin bamboo poles at 8-10 am for 2-3 times (interval 3-5 days). Fifthly, to prevent and control pests and mice, pay attention to the use of low-toxicity pesticides.

Common Diseases of Buckwheat and Their Control

1. For ring pattern disease, 0.5% bordeaux mixture or 65% zinc debem WP 600 times solution, or 40% carbendazim colloidal suspension 500~800 times solution can be sprayed.

2. For downy mildew, in the early stage of disease, it can be sprayed with 800~1000 times of 25% Ruidumei (metalaxyl) WP or 600~800 times of 65% zinc.

3. For brown spot disease, 75% mancozeb wettable powder or 65% mancozeb and other fungicides can be sprayed 500~800 times.

Buckwheat is a crop that can be planted all the year round. When planting, you must choose the time according to your local actual situation. After planting, management work needs to be done well, watering, fertilization, disease control, pollination and other work need to be done in place.
