Select the place with fertile and loose soil and good drainage, the planting density is about 55 plants / mu, the plant row spacing is about 3-4m, dig the hole with appropriate size according to different topography, fill the hole with base fertilizer, fill the pit 20-30cm higher than the ground, whole the tree plate, and then cover the rice straw. Choose to plant in cloudy days in spring or autumn, fertilize and water regularly, plough 3-4 times a year, and trim the fruit trees in time to improve fruit yield and quality.

Lemons like to grow in warm and cool places, and they are not resistant to heat, so choose subtropical areas that are warm in winter and cool in summer.

1. Garden site selection, rectification and improvement

Choose a place with loose and fertile soil and good drainage to build an orchard and plant it in autumn or winter with a planting density of about 56 plants per mu and a row spacing of 3 × 4 m. If planting in hilly and mountainous areas, dig a round hole with depth and width of 82cm, and if you plant in low-lying flat land, the hole can be slightly shallower.

Put 50kg soil compost, compost and 0.5kg lime in each hole, then mix them with 0.5kg superphosphate and fill them into the pit species. Fill them with 5-10kg fully mature pig and cattle pen manure. When filling back into the pit, it is 20-30cm higher than the ground, making a 0.8m tree plate, and then covering the tree plate with some straw to moisturize the soil.

2. Planting time

Lemons are generally planted from February to March and from September to October. If they are planted in areas with uniform rainfall or in gardens with sufficient water for drainage and irrigation, they can be planted all the year round. It is best to choose cloudy days for planting. After planting, they should be irrigated with enough fixed root water, and then covered with straw to moisturize. In order to ensure sufficient water in the soil, water should be watered regularly.

3. Fertilizer and water management

In the first two years after planting, young trees should apply nitrogen fertilizer as topdressing to promote the formation of tree crown, but from the third year, we should pay attention to reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizer and increase the application of calcium magnesium phosphorus compound fertilizer.

In autumn, organic fertilizer was applied to the soil as base fertilizer, and topdressing was carried out at different growth stages of lemon to strengthen the nutrition of the tree and promote flower bud differentiation and flowering and fruiting.

After the flower fade to the fruit expansion period and autumn heading period, it is necessary to strengthen the fertilization of lemon trees, spread rotten bran fertilizer or human manure, and timely topdressing urea and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer according to the growth of lemon trees.

Topdressing should pay attention to a small number of times, in order to prevent the loss of too much fertilizer, may not absorb lemon trees, the orchard should be watered or irrigated in time in the process of planting to ensure sufficient water and promote the growth of lemon trees.

4. Ploughing and weeding

During the summer and autumn dry seasons, the orchards should be ploughed before the drought to keep the soil loose and reduce water evaporation in the soil. In the process of planting, intertillage should be done 3-4 times a year, and the depth of each intertillage should be controlled at about 10-15cm. Attention should be paid to avoid damage to the root system.

In summer, some legume green manure can be planted between the rows of fruit trees as mulch to prevent soil erosion, eradicate weeds under the canopy, and then cover the crown with weeds.

5. Pruning

The growth of lemon trees is exuberant, their flowering is very strong, and it is easy to produce overgrown branches where the branches are bent and above the backbone branches to disturb the shape of the tree. in the process of planting, rope hanging and pulling support main branches can be used to shape and prune the lemon trees, so that the secondary main branches do not bend, and the sprouts on the backbone branches are wiped off regularly.

When pruning, we should pay attention to be as light as possible, leave a small amount of sunlight in the crown, pick out or cut off the long branches in time in pure, summer and autumn, and cut off the disease and insect branches, withered branches and fruit branches in time in winter.
