Soil: velvet should choose fertile and loose acidic soil. Light and temperature: avoid excessive light, and shade velvet in summer and early autumn. The most suitable temperature for growth is 18 ℃-25 ℃. Moisture: during the growing period, it is necessary to provide sufficient water, keep the basin soil moist but not accumulate water, and spray water around it to keep the air moist. Fertilization: different ways of fertilization are needed in each stage. Pruning: cut off weak branches, leaves and forks to reduce nutrient loss.

Velvet is a green herbaceous foliage plant, with underground roots, the plant is only 50-60cm tall, the leaf is larger, it is also called zebra, velvet leaf, zebra, zebra because its leaves have zebra-like stripes.

1. Soil and basin change

The cultivation of velvet needs to choose fertile, loose acid soil, must not choose heavy soil. Rotten leaf soil or peat soil 2/3 plus 1/3 perlite and a small amount of base fertilizer can be used to make a suitable culture soil for velvet growth. Changing the basin or soil can be carried out in the spring every year, and when the new buds are extracted, the old soil can be removed and the new cultivated soil can be replaced, which can ensure the fertility of the soil and make the soil loose and ventilated.

Second, light and temperature

Lighting: velvet is not suitable to grow in shade or places with too much light during growth and development, because too much light will directly burn branches and leaves, and it cannot be photosynthesized in shade, so it should be properly shaded in summer and early autumn. In summer and early autumn, it is necessary to give velvet shade about 70%, 80%, while winter shade only needs 30%, 40%, which can effectively avoid direct sunlight.

Temperature: the most suitable growth temperature for velvet is 18-25 ℃. In summer, because the temperature is high, water evaporates quickly, so when the temperature reaches more than 32 ℃, you need to keep it in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance; in winter, if the temperature is lower than 13 ℃, the plant will stop growing, and serious ones may freeze to death, it is best to keep the room temperature at about 15 ℃.

3. Suitable moisture

Velvet has strict requirements for moisture, must provide sufficient moisture during the growing period, and keep the basin soil moist all the time, neither too dry nor too wet, which can not lead to stagnant water in the basin. In spring, summer and autumn, it is necessary to spray water on the leaves of velvet and around the plant to achieve air wettability, which should be kept at about 70% and 80%.

IV. Fertilization requirements

Cake fertilizer should be applied every 1-2 weeks in the growth stage of velvet, water should be applied in spring, and the concentration should increase gradually. About 15 days from summer to autumn, liquid fertilizer mainly composed of phosphate and potash can be poured once. After applying fertilizer, the fertilizer on the leaf surface should be washed with water to avoid fertilizer damage and enhance the cold resistance of the plant. Dihydrogen phosphate solution with a concentration of 0.2% Mo 0.3% can be sprayed on the leaves every other week or so after fertilization, and it can be sprayed 2-3 times all the time, while velvet cannot be fertilized in winter.

5. Pruning

Velvet is a kind of plant that is more resistant to pruning, as long as the long branches and cross branches are cut off, or some branches and leaves that look weak, it can bring beauty to the whole velvet and reduce the loss of a lot of nutrients.

VI. points for attention

1. The temperature of velvet should not be lower than 13 ℃ in winter, because it will make the plant freeze or stop growing, and it is easy to wilt in summer, so the temperature can not be higher than 35 ℃, and the water will be lost seriously.

2. Velvet leaves have white spots because of leaf spot disease, and sometimes withered leaves affect the growth of velvet. You can first remove the dead leaves and spray them with Bordeaux solution until the original leaves are restored.
