Variety selection: we should select excellent varieties with fast growth, high survival rate, good quality and strong resistance. Afforestation technology: From mid-March to early April, loose and fertile plots are selected, and seedlings with complete roots of 20 cm long are selected for afforestation. Management: the management process needs to do a good job of soil cultivation, watering, fertilization, pruning and other work.

1. Variety selection

Good varieties with wide adaptability, fast growth, high survival rate, good quality and strong resistance should be selected.

II. Afforestation techniques

1. Selection of plots

Because of its fast growing poplar growth, water and fertilizer needs of large characteristics, should choose fertile loose, good fertility and high humidity plot planting.

2. Careful soil preparation

Cutting between stumps, careful soil preparation, soil maturation and soil fertility improvement play an important role in restoring root growth and promoting rapid growth and high yield of trees.

3. Soil preparation method

Digging a hole with length, width and height of 60cm for soil preparation and planting, applying 0.5 kg phosphorus fertilizer and 10kg soil miscellaneous fertilizer in the hole.

4. Afforestation methods

Before planting, backfill soil to half of the tree pit, step on it and irrigate sole water, keep the soil surface wet after seepage, put fast-growing poplar into the hole, bury the ground soil, lift seedlings upward to spread root system, step on it and irrigate water thoroughly, and the planting depth is 10- 20cm lower than the original depth.

5. Selection of seedlings

Choose the fast-growing poplar with first-class big seedlings 20cm long and complete root system, and plant them with them. For the seedlings with long transportation distance, soak the root system in water for 2-3 days to absorb water, and take root protection measures to prevent root system water loss.

6. Afforestation time

Spring from mid-March to early April, autumn from mid-October to early November.

7. Afforestation density

Afforestation density should be determined according to site conditions, tending measures, mixed methods, management objectives, and growth and development stages of fast-growing poplars. Usually, the standard is 3m×4m or 2m×6m.

III. Management techniques

1. Soil cultivation and watering

Cultivate soil: irrigation after planting, shallow planting depth, trunk instability, or large specifications of fast-growing poplar should be cultivated in time.

Watering: water quality test before watering, resolutely do not use pollution, salt content exceeds 3‰ water, according to the situation to determine the frequency, should be at least 4 times/year.

(1) Water in mid-March to promote germination.

(2) watering in early May to promote the growth of branches and leaves.

(3) When the temperature exceeds 24-26℃ in late June, the watering amount can be increased appropriately.

(4) Watering in early November promotes root development and overwintering.

2. Fertilization

(1)fertilization time

After defoliation or in early spring of the following year, it is the base fertilizer for fast-growing poplar, and it is applied twice a year in the peak growth period. Nitrogen fertilizer or compound fertilizer is applied from late April to late May and early June to late August.

(2) Amount of fertilizer applied

The fertilizer application amount is determined according to fertilizer properties, soil types and tree vigor, and 10-20kg/plant is applied as base fertilizer for mature trees;0.1- 0.3 kg/plant urea is applied as top fertilizer;0.2- 0.6 kg/plant ammonium bicarbonate is applied;0.2- 0.5 kg/plant ammonium phosphate is applied.

Different fertilizer requirements in different growth periods can be applied by stages or once, and the dosage can be reduced for young fast-growing poplar trees aged 1-3 years.

(2) Fertilization method

Strip or circular fertilization, digging 30-40cm deep groove, backfilling soil after fertilization, pruning tree tray irrigation, conducive to other field operations.

3. Forest management

(1)pruning position

In spring and autumn 1-2 years after planting, reasonable pruning according to the growth of trees can promote the trunk of fast-growing poplar to be straight and complete, and generally prune diseased branches and competitive branches.

Especially two central stems and especially prosperous branches, keep one central stem; in special cases, prune branches in summer to promote the growth of tree crown; after 3 years, prune the height to 1/3 of fast-growing poplar, and prune the new branches sprouted on the lower trunk in time.

(2)pruning time

It is best to prune from late October to early November after defoliation in late autumn, or from late February to early March before germination in the next spring.

(5)pruning technique

When pruning, stick to the trunk, use sharp tools to prune from bottom to top, prune the mouth to be smooth, avoid stubble or tear the bark, which is not conducive to the growth and development of fast-growing poplar.

4. Forest management

After planting, soil loosening, weeding, pest control, etc. shall be carried out for three consecutive years to cultivate fast-growing poplar trees.
