Strawberry in the open air is suitable for planting in neutral or slightly acidic soil, not suitable for rotation with green pepper, potato, eggplant, tomato and other crops, generally in August to September for seedling planting, before planting soil tillage and weed removal, choose cloudy days or afternoon according to reasonable density to plant, avoid sunlight exposure. Seedlings need to choose strong seedlings with full top buds. Planting depth is the key to determine seedling survival. It is advisable to achieve shallow roots and deep buried centers. Compact soil after planting and irrigate thoroughly in time.

I. Select the plot

Strawberry has strong adaptability to soil, and can be planted in general plots, but strawberry has the characteristics of liking water, fertilizer, light and fear of waterlogging. Therefore, it can be planted in loam or sandy loam with good light, high terrain, flat ground, loose soil, convenient irrigation and abundant organic matter.

Strawberries like to be planted in neutral or slightly acidic soil, the appropriate pH value is 5.5-7.0, can be planted in the previous crop crops for beans, melons, wheat plots, not with eggplant, green pepper, potato, tomato and other solanaceous crops rotation.

II. Tillage

1. In July and August, weeds should be thoroughly removed, the soil should be tilled, and then sufficient base fertilizer should be applied to supplement the demand for nutrients in the growth process. More than 5 square meters of decomposed chicken manure, 100 catties of calcium superphosphate and 60 catties of compound fertilizer can be applied per mu. After the base fertilizer is evenly spread, the soil should be deeply ploughed to 20-25cm, leveled and then compacted. Before ploughing, 4 catties of phoxim can be used for soil disinfection per mu.

2. Soil preparation after disinfection, the soil for soil preparation must be fine, otherwise it will affect the survival rate of seedlings after planting, and it is not conducive to the growth of seedlings after slow planting, so that the ridge surface and ridge are straight. 2-3 days before planting seedlings, the soil needs to be watered thoroughly.

3. Strawberry open-air planting methods are divided into high ridge and flat ridge. The high ridge width is 0.8-1.0 meters, the flat ridge width is 1.3-1.5 meters, the ridge surface width is 0.40 - 0.50 meters, the ridge width is 0.40 - 0.50 meters, and the ridge height is 0.15-0.20 meters. The ridge should not be too long, generally suitable for 30-50 meters, which is convenient for later irrigation.

III. Seedling Planting Time

Generally suitable for planting in early August to mid-September, but due to different climates and regions, strawberry planting time will also be different, northern areas can be planted as early as possible, Baoding area can be planted in mid-August to mid-September.

IV. Seedling planting density

The number of seedlings planted ranged from 7000 to 10000.

V. Seedling planting row spacing and plant spacing

4 rows can be planted in each flat ridge, the row spacing is 0.30- 0.35m, the plant spacing is 0.20- 0.30m, and 2 rows can be planted in each high ridge, the row spacing is 0.25- 0.30m, and the plant spacing is 0.15--0.25m.

VI. Seedling Planting Methods

(1) Planting can be carried out on cloudy days or around 4 p.m., during which sunlight exposure can be avoided. Seedlings should be planted with 3-5 leaves, more than 10 new roots and full terminal buds without diseases.

(2) Planting depth is the key to determine the survival of seedlings. If the planting is too deep or too shallow, it will lead to seedling death. During this period, it is necessary to level the root neck of seedlings with the ground, bow outward to reach shallow root exposure and deep heart burial, and let the rhizome fully extend. After planting, gently compact the soil, and then irrigate thoroughly in time, which can be continuously irrigated for 3-4 days.

(3) Check carefully after watering. If there are exposed seedlings, crooked seedlings and silted seedlings, re-planting shall be carried out according to the requirements. After planting is completed, reed curtains and leafy branches can be used for proper shading in case of sunny sun.
