Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Majia pomelo should be planted in the soil with good drainage and high organic matter content, and the mountain garden should be built with a 3.5-meter-wide fruit belt along the climbing line, with a height difference of 1.3 meters between different terraces, it should be noted that the outer edge of the fruit belt is higher than the inner edge, and the row spacing of planting plants is about 4 meters.

Majia pomelo should be planted in soil with good drainage and high organic matter content, 3.5-meter-wide fruit belt should be planted along the climbing line in mountainous area, the height difference between different terraces should be 1.3 meters, the outer edge of fruit belt should be higher than the inner edge, the fixed plant spacing should be about 4 meters, the planting soil can be mixed with a small amount of basal fertilizer, urea, nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied during the growth process, the excessive branches and overgrown branches should be pruned in time in the later stage, and pesticides should be used to control diseases and insect pests.

I. Selection of Land for Garden Construction

(1) Majia pomelo can be planted in hilly areas with southeast and southwest slopes with slope not exceeding 25°. Majia pomelo has high crown and developed root system. Therefore, the soil depth of planting land shall be at least 1m. It can be planted in soil with good drainage and high organic matter content. Laterite and sandy loam are common in southern areas.

(2) To build a garden in mountainous area, it is necessary to make a fruit belt 3.5m wide along the ascending line, and the height difference between different terraces is 1.3m. Moreover, the outer edge of the fruit belt should be higher than the inner edge, which is conducive to later drainage.

II. Planting

(1) The row spacing is 4×3.5m, and the height difference in mountainous area is small, so the crown interaction of different rows of Majia pomelo is relatively small, so it can be planted densely.

(2) Dig a deep pit of 80-100cm during planting, mix base fertilizer with original soil, backfill after planting seedlings, naturally stretch the roots of seedlings during planting, pile a conical mound around the trunk of seedlings during backfilling, the cone top needs to be 20cm higher than the ground, lightly compact the soil and irrigate it thoroughly. If the weather is dry after planting, irrigate it once every 15 days, which is conducive to improving the survival rate of seedlings.

III. Water and fertilizer management

(1) Young trees: Majia pomelo grows vigorously, so it needs a large amount of fertilizer. Young trees should be fertilized many times in the growth stage. They should be fertilized once a month after planting and once every two months in the later stage. They can be fertilized five times a year. One jin urea can be applied to each tree. After half a year, the fertilizer application amount will be increased slowly by 30%.

(2) Adult trees: Fertilization can be selected before and after shooting, fruit setting period, strong fruit period and after fruit picking. Fertilization can be applied four times a year. Available nitrogen fertilizer can be applied before and after shooting, available nitrogen fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer can be applied during fruit setting period, phosphorus potassium fertilizer and available nitrogen fertilizer can be applied during strong fruit period. After fruit picking, the nutrient loss of trees is relatively large. At this time, a large amount of organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer can be applied to supplement the nutrient requirements of trees.

IV. Shaping and pruning

Pruning young trees of Pomelo Majia can cultivate high-yield tree skeleton, during which overgrown branches and excessive branches can be cut off. The main branches and branches are cultivated in a planned way to form a natural open tree shape. The crown of mature trees of Pomelo Majia is tall and vigorous, so it is necessary to properly prune the branches at the top, which is conducive to light transmission and ventilation of the tree body. The branches growing inside should be pruned less, only the necessary cross branches can be pruned, which is conducive to the cultivation of internal fruit branches.

V. Prevention and control of diseases and insect pests

Majia pomelo is planted in mountainous areas. The main diseases and insect pests are Papilio, which can be controlled by spraying insecticides once every 15 days. However, many kinds of acaricides need to be used alternately to improve the control effect.
