Durian is not suitable for planting in the north, it is difficult to survive and will not bear fruit in the northern climate, durian belongs to tropical crops, generally in the areas where there is no frost in the whole year, the annual precipitation is 1000 mm, and the average low temperature for many years is above 0 ℃.

Can durian be planted in the north

Durian is a tropical crop with a height of 15-20 meters, with obvious trunk and fragile branches, which are vulnerable to strong winds. Generally, durian can grow normally in areas where the average low temperature for many years is above 0 ℃, there is basically no frost throughout the year, the accumulated temperature of ≥ 10 ℃ is above 7000-7500 ℃, and the annual precipitation is 1000 mm. Therefore, it is difficult to plant durian successfully in the north.

II. Planting methods of durian

1. Sowing seeds

Durian seeds are generally sowed in spring. Durian seeds can be taken out and soaked in clean water. When the temperature is relatively suitable, the seed coat can be seen to break for 24 hours, then soak until the white core inside it comes out, sow 20cm according to plant spacing and row spacing, and then cover a small amount of shallow soil. During this period, the soil moisture is kept at about 30%, and soon it will sprout and emerge.

2. Raising seedlings

In the process of seedling growth, weeding and shallow ploughing should be carried out in time to remove weeds in the garden to avoid weeds grabbing seedling growth nutrients. Shallow ploughing can accelerate seed germination and soil emergence. When shallow ploughing and weeding, watering and fertilization can be carried out to promote the rapid growth of seedlings. In addition to the method of sowing and raising seedlings, excellent mother plants can also be propagated by air striping, which will easily take root and form new seedlings. It only takes 2-3 months from reproduction to mature seedling.

3. Transplanting and planting

Planting can be carried out when the seedlings grow to 40-50 cm. When planting, the planted soil should be ploughed first, and then organic fertilizer, soil fertilizer and lime should be applied as base fertilizer. The amount of base fertilizer can be determined according to the planting environment and scale. Generally, it can be planted throughout the year. When starting seedlings, the soil should be watered thoroughly, and then the roots should be dug out. Be careful not to damage the roots, so as to avoid affecting the survival rate of planting. It can be planted according to the plant spacing of 3 meters and the row spacing of 5 meters.

4. Field management

The main results are as follows: (1) after applying sufficient basic fertilizer, durian needs to be fertilized 2-3 times a year, which is in bud stage, fruit expansion stage and before fruit picking, and the types of fertilization are also different in these three periods. Water-soluble fertilizer can be diluted with water, drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation and root irrigation.

(2) this method is convenient and fast, and will not hurt the root system of durian, and it is beneficial to improve the utilization rate of fertilizer. Durian has a strong sprouting power, and it is easy to grow under the condition of sufficient water and fertilizer, so it needs timely shaping and pruning, so that the plant can maintain a beautiful tree shape, increase its permeability and improve its quality and yield.

5. Harvest

Durian ripening period is in November, February, June-August, when the fruit color changes to orange-yellow or orange-red, it is ripe, then it can be harvested, it needs to be stored for about 7 days after harvest, and it can only be eaten after the pulp is soft.
