Sowing time: spring sowing from early march to late april, autumn sowing from mid september to early october. Sowing method: first deeply plow the soil to 20-30 cm, dig drainage ditch, apply 10-20kg compound fertilizer per mu, row spacing of drilling is 30-40 cm, depth is 1 cm, and seeding amount per mu is about 100-200 g. Planting management: pay attention to weed control during seedling stage, and apply 5-10 kg urea after mowing.

General chicory grass belongs to perennial miscellaneous compositae grass, broad and green leaves, rich nutritional value, good palatability, high digestibility, suitable for all kinds of livestock and poultry to eat, and general chicory grass disease resistance, adaptability, easy to yield, can be cut 5-8 times a year, yield per mu can be as high as 12000kg, greatly reducing the feed cost of livestock and poultry.

I. Sowing time

Spring sowing can be selected from early March to late April, autumn sowing can be selected from mid-September to early October.

II. Prepare for sowing

Before sowing, soil preparation shall be carried out, the soil shall be deeply ploughed to 20-30cm, drainage ditch shall be dug after harrowing, and compound fertilizer 10-20kg shall be applied per mu.

III. Sowing method and sowing quantity

General chicory grass can be selected broadcast, drill, seedling transplanting, generally adopt the drill way, the suitable row spacing for drill is 30-40cm, the sowing depth should not exceed 1 cm, the sowing amount per mu is about 100-200g.

IV. Post-management

Weeds should be prevented and controlled in time during the seedling period of General chicory pasture, which is conducive to maintaining good moisture content. For drilling or seedling transplanting, it can be transplanted when the seedlings grow to 5-7 leaves. Generally, 5-10kg urea should be applied per mu after cutting of General chicory pasture, and irrigation can be carried out according to moisture content during this period.

V. Utilization mode

1. Autumn sowing is relatively early, when the general chicory grass grows to 30-45cm in that year, it can be mowed once, during which the stubble height is about 5 cm, not later than the first ten days of December in the north, but in a few areas in the south. There is no need for topdressing after mowing in frosty areas, and topdressing can be selected in the spring of the second year.

2. In order to avoid general chicory grass bolting, the cutting height should not be too high. The nutritional value of general chicory grass is relatively high. The dry matter of rosette leaves contains crude fat of 5%, crude protein of 15%-32%, crude fiber of 13%, calcium of 1.5%, phosphorus of 0.42%, among which various amino acids and trace elements are also rich.

3. The nutritional value of General chicory grass is similar to alfalfa, but its digestibility and mineral content are higher than alfalfa. The digestibility of rosette leaves can be as high as 90%-95%. General chicory grass is suitable for feeding all kinds of poultry and livestock, which is conducive to improving the conversion rate of meat and fat.

4. Feeding pigs and rabbits with military chicory grass has achieved good breeding profits, so farmers can try to plant and feed successfully, and then plant a large number of military chicory grass, which is conducive to improving the benefits of planting and breeding.
