Top insertion method: bamboo sticks inserted into rootstock are pulled out, and then scion is cut into holes, scion cotyledons and rootstock cotyledons are shaped like a cross. Abutment method: the scion cut inserted into the rootstock stem cut, the two cuts need to be closely combined, and then use grafting clip fixed interface. Splitting method: the cut scion inserted into the split, grafted rootstock and scion surface level, and then fixed with grafting clip.

1. Grafting techniques of vegetables

1. Top insertion method

(1) To rootstock growth point: You can use a blade or bamboo stick to cut off the true leaves and growth points of the rootstock.

(2) Cutting of rootstock: Bamboo sticks with the same thickness as scion hypocotyl and tapered tip can be used, and then inserted obliquely from the main vein of one cotyledon of rootstock to the direction of the other cotyledon for 1cm. Generally, it is appropriate not to cut the outer epidermis and faintly see bamboo sticks.

(3) Cutting scion: 1-1.5cm below cotyledon node, cut it into wedge surface with blade length of 1cm.

(4) Grafting: It is necessary to pull out the bamboo sticks inserted in the rootstock, and then insert the cut scion into the hole. The scion cotyledons and rootstock cotyledons are in the shape of "cross".

2. Contact method

(1) to rootstock growth point: can use a blade or bamboo stick, cut off the true leaves and growth points of rootstock.

(2) Rootstock cutting: 0.5-1cm below the cotyledons, use a blade to cut down, the depth needs to reach 1/2 of the stem thickness.

(3) Cutting scion: It is necessary to bevel upwards at the corresponding part of scion, generally reaching 1/2 of stem diameter, and the incision length is the same as that of rootstock.

(4) Grafting: The scion incision can be inserted into the rootstock stem incision, the two incisions should be closely combined, and then the grafting clip is used to fix the interface.

(5) Root cutting: After grafting, it is necessary to plant the rootstock and scion into the nutrient bowl at the same time, about 1cm apart, and the interface is about 3cm away from the soil surface. After waiting for 7 days, the interface heals, and then cut off the root of the scion. Generally, after 10-15 days, the grafting clip can be removed.

3. Splitting method

(1) To rootstock growth point: You can use a blade or bamboo stick to cut off the true leaves and growth points of the rootstock.

(2) Cutting of rootstock: From the middle of 2 cotyledons, split the young stem downward, the length is 1-1.5cm.

(3) Cutting scion: The young stem of scion needs to be cut into wedges, and the length of the cut surface is 1-1.5cm.

(4) Grafting: It is necessary to insert the cut scion into the cleft, graft the rootstock and scion surface flat, and then fix it with grafting clip.

2. Suitable grafting time for vegetables

1. Melons: When cotyledons are fully developed and true leaves are exposed, it is suitable for grafting.

2. Eggplant: When the rootstock grows 3-4 true leaves, the scion grows 2-3 true leaves, and the grafting needs to retain 1 true leaf.

3. Tomato: When the rootstock grows 4-5 true leaves, the scion grows 2-3 true leaves, and the grafting needs to retain 1 true leaf.
