The cold bird appeared in the Chinese text, and the district tells the story of the cold bird muddling along and freezing to death, so how on earth does the cold bird survive the winter?

First, how do cold birds spend the winter?

Cold birds store food for the winter and usually have their own nests. If the weather is cold or there is a shortage of food, death may occur.

Second, the form of Cold Bird

It is of medium size, slightly larger than a red-bellied squirrel, weighs 300 to 400 grams, has a body length of 300 to 340 millimeters, a slightly flat tail, as long as the body, a hind foot 40-48 millimeters and ears 30-35 millimeters long. The head is round and the eye is large, the muzzle is short, and the ear is well-developed and wide.

There are long and soft tufts of hair at the base of the cold bird's ear, the base of the dorsal hair is grayish black, the upper part is yellowish, and the tip is black. The neck and back is more yellow than the back, the abdominal hair is gray-white, with a light orange hair tip, the flying film color is the same as the ventral side, but the edge is gray-white, the demarcation between the back and abdomen can be clearly seen. The color of the back of the tail is similar to that of the back of the body, but it is lighter and the end of the tail is black. the ventral surface of the tail is black except that the hair of the tail base is slightly yellow, forming a longitudinal pattern up to the end of the tail. There is a black circle around the eye socket.

II. Living habits

Cold birds mostly live in mountain cypress forest areas, often in steep stone caves, stone cracks, tree holes and other places to build nests, less nests, composed of weeds, branches, bark, feathers and so on. The cave or gap is generally narrow, about 1 meter deep and about 15 to 60 centimeters high. The cave is either straight or curved, convex and uneven, and most of the squirrels lie high in the cave and are paved with hay. In winter, the mouth of the cave is often closed with firewood and grass to keep out the wind and cold. The whole cave is dry and clean, with moderate temperature all the year round. The highest temperature in summer is 25: 27 ℃, the lowest temperature in winter is about 10 ℃, and the air relative humidity is mostly below 60%.

Cold bird is endemic to China. It generally lives in coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests about 1200 meters above sea level and nests in tall trees or steep rock cracks.
