Cotton is a plant of cotton genus of Malvaceae, its whole body is full of treasures, it is not only the most important fiber crop, but also an important oil crop, but also a high-protein food crop, but also textile, fine chemical raw materials and important strategic materials. So how does cotton spread its seeds?

How does cotton spread its seeds?

Cotton depends on the wind, animals and people to spread seeds. Cotton is so light that the wind can fly everywhere. When the wind stops, the seeds will fall somewhere. Many insects and birds use cotton seeds to build nests or satisfy their hunger. After a long flight, the seeds may fall, or they may be excreted with feces, and then take root and sprout on the ground. Cotton seeds are now spread by people.

II. Introduction of the three major cotton producing areas in China

The three major cotton producing areas in China include Xinjiang cotton area, Yellow River Basin cotton area and Yangtze River Basin cotton area.

1. Xinjiang cotton area: it mainly includes Xinjiang and Gansu. Xinjiang cotton is mainly used in China. Xinjiang cotton production accounts for about 50% of China's cotton output. It is an irrigated cotton area with sufficient sunshine, arid climate and scarce rainfall; the farming system is one crop a year, the cotton field is concentrated, the planting scale is large, the degree of mechanization is high, the level of per unit yield is high, the color of raw cotton is good, and the content of "three silk" is lower than that of other cotton areas.

2. The cotton area of the Yellow River Basin: at present, it is a cotton area with a large cotton planting area in China, including Hebei Province (except north of the Great Wall), Shandong Province, Henan Province (excluding Nanyang and Xinyang), southern Shanxi, Guanzhong, Gansu, Longnan, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces north of the Huaihe River and the suburbs of Beijing and Tianjin. The sunshine is sufficient, the heat condition is good, the soil fertility is medium, the annual precipitation is moderate, and the fiber quality is better in the normal year. Shandong and Hebei cotton are similar, good color, good luster, long fiber, low short cashmere rate, good strength, one grade higher than Hubei, low Ma Clone value, can spin 40 yarns, but more than three filaments.

3. Cotton production in the Yangtze River Basin: commercial cotton production is mainly concentrated in the coastal and riverside cotton areas of Jiangsu Province. The cotton areas along the Yangtze River in Shanghai, Qiantang River in Zhejiang, along the Yangtze River in Anhui, Poyang Lake in Jiangxi, Dongting Lake in Hunan and Jianghan Plain in Hubei, across Henan and Hubei Nanxiang Basin and Sichuan Basin. Among them, Hunan and Hubei have relatively large cotton production. Its cotton is characterized by good maturity, large horse clone value, thick fiber, more than 80% cotton micronaire value above 4, less three filaments, lower short cashmere rate than Henan, gray color, 21 yarns and 32 yarns.
