What does the olive tree look like?

Olive is a 10-25 m tall tree with 3-6 pairs of leaflets, papery to leathery, lanceolate or oval (to ovate), bearing oval or spindle-shaped fruit, nearly round in cross section, usually flowering from April to May, and fruit maturing in October-December.

Second, the growth habits of olive trees

Olive trees are generally born in ravines and hillsides below 1300 meters above sea level, or cultivated in gardens and villages.

Olive trees are mainly distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places, is a good windbreak tree species and street trees.

If olive trees are to be planted, they are usually planted in spring from March to April or autumn in mid-late October. After planting, they should be often watered in sunny days to keep the soil moist until they survive; when the seedlings die, they should be replanted in time.

III. Disease and pest control of olive trees

1. Disease

The main diseases of olive are anthracnose, soot, gum disease and so on. Anthracnose is mainly harmful to leaves and fruits. The leaf disease spot is semicircular or irregular, the boundary between disease and health is obvious, the young fruit is dark green oil-soaked, easy to fall off.

2. Insect pests

The main pests of olives are olive room planthopper, skin moth, leaf roll moth and so on. The olive star room planthopper usually has 7-9 generations a year, overwintering with adults on the back of the leaves and laying eggs on the buds, causing damage to the young leaves and buds.

There are three peak periods, corresponding to spring, summer and autumn shoot growth periods, that is, mid-late April, mid-late June and mid-late August.

Cut off disease and insect branches, weak branches and long branches in winter, remove withered leaves and weeds in the garden, and burn them centrally; strengthen management, promote tidy shoots, so as to break the food chain of wood lice and shorten the damage period; spray to protect the shoots when a small amount of wood lice occurs.
