There are many kinds of aquatic plants, which can be divided into water-bearing plants, floating-leaf plants, submerged and floating plants and water-standing herbs according to their way of life. Let's take a look at the main points of the planting methods of aquatic plants.

I. planting management

Aquatic plants should be planted according to the habits of different species or varieties. In garden construction, there are two different technical ways to plant aquatic plants: one is to build a planting trough at the bottom of the pond, lay with at least 15 cm thick culture soil, and implant the aquatic plants into the soil; the other is to put the aquatic plant species in a container and sink the container into the water. The two methods described above have their own advantages and disadvantages. The method of planting aquatic plants in containers and then sinking into the water is more common because it is easy to move. For example, in winter in the north, containers have to be taken out and collected to prevent severe cold. In spring, when changing soil, fertilizing and dividing plants, the operation is more flexible and labor-saving. Moreover, this method can keep the water of the pool clear, and it is more convenient to clean the bottom and change the water.

2. Planting apparatus

When the pool is built, planting troughs are built in suitable depths of the water, coupled with humus-rich culture soil. Planters generally choose wooden boxes, bamboo baskets, wicker baskets and so on, which will not rot within a year. When selecting, we should pay attention to loading soil and planting, so as not to dump or be blown over by wind and waves in the water. Generally, containers with holes are not needed, because the cultivated soil and its fertilizer effect can easily be lost to the water, and even pollute the water quality. Different aquatic plants have different requirements for water depth, and the location of containers is also different. Generally, masonry square platform is built in the water, and the container is placed on the top support of the square platform to make it safe and reliable. Another way is to tie the container with two water-resistant ropes, then fasten the rope to the shore and press it under the stone. If the water level is very close to the shore, and there are rockery scattered points on the shore, the rope should be hidden, otherwise it will affect the landscape effect.

3. Soil

You can sift through clean garden soil to remove twigs, weeds and dead leaves from the soil, and avoid using thin mud in the pond as far as possible, so as not to mix seeds of aquatic weeds or other harmful bacteria. Take this as the main material, and then add a small amount of coarse bone powder and some slow-release nitrogen fertilizer.

IV. Management

The management of aquatic plants is generally relatively simple, after planting, in addition to the daily management work, but also pay attention to the following points:

Check for diseases and insect pests; check whether the plants are crowded, usually divide the plants once after 3 to 4 years; apply topdressing regularly; remove weeds from the water; change water or clean up thoroughly when the bottom or water is too dirty. When planting aquatic plants, we must master some principles to make them grow well.

5. Key points of maintenance

1. Use soil

Apart from the fact that floating plants do not need subsoil, other kinds of aquatic plants should use organic clay soil such as soil and pond mud as the subsoil and cover the surface with coarse sand with a diameter of one to two centimeters, so as to prevent water turbidity caused by irrigation or vibration. When planting at home, in order to prevent odor and mosquito breeding, you can put the pot containing soil outdoors, select plants that grow well and put them in water containers, watch them indoors, and replace them at any time, while waterside plants are planted with field soil and broken water moss.

2. Sunshine

Most aquatic plants need plenty of sunshine, especially during the growing period, that is, between April and October each year, if the sun is insufficient, they will grow too long, their leaves are small and thin, and they do not blossom.

3. Fertilization

Take the jade fertilizer of oil meal and bone meal as the base fertilizer, about four or five jade fertilizer can be put in the corner of the container, waterside plants do not need base fertilizer. Topdressing uses chemical fertilizers instead of organic fertilizers to avoid polluting water quality, and the dosage is ten times thinner than that of ordinary plants.

4. Water level

Aquatic plants have different requirements for water depth according to their growth habits.

5. Thinning

If all kinds of aquatic plants are co-planted in the same pool, the species that propagate rapidly, such as duckweed and duckweed, must be removed regularly, so as not to cover the water surface and affect the growth of water lilies or other submerged plants. When floating plants are too large, when the leaves cover each other, split must also be carried out.

3. Change water

In order to avoid mosquito breeding or deterioration of water quality, when the water is turbid, the water must be changed, and the frequency of water change must be increased in summer.
