How do blueberry trees survive the winter?

Blueberries generally grow in the south, and in the north they move into warm rooms or use greenhouses in winter. Artificial snow can be made to protect against cold in winter.

The Lignification degree of blueberry branches is poor, and the root system is shallow, so open field cultivation in our cold area must be cold-proof. When the cold prevention measures are not used properly or do not meet the standard, light ones will have striping and flower bud freezing injury, which will affect the growth of the tree and the yield and quality of the fruit; in serious cases, it will lead to no harvest, or even the whole plant will freeze to death.

Although dwarf blueberry and semi-high blueberry have strong cold resistance, even the Maiden varieties with the strongest cold resistance will be seriously injured in the open winter. Our city is located in the alpine forest region, with long winter and spring, low extreme temperature, long duration, relatively dry air in early spring and more windy days, so it is more important to keep blueberries from overwintering.

In the cold and snowy areas of the north, artificial snow can be made to prevent the cold in winter. The yield of blueberry protected by snow is less cold-proof, and the yield of covering leaves and rice straw is greatly increased, and it has the advantages of convenient material collection, labor and time saving, low cost, soil moisture conservation and so on. Generally, the suitable mulch thickness is 2cm 3, and the suitable thickness is 15~30cm.
