Cardamom is two kinds of seasonings commonly used in our lives, but there are so many varieties that many people will be confused. The following editor will introduce the common difference between cardamom and nutmeg.

I. the difference between cardamom and nutmeg

Different sources: cardamom is the dried seed group of Zingiberaceae plant cardamom, which is a kind of spice seasoning. Nutmeg is the dried nut of an evergreen tree of the nutmeg family, often used to make brine.

The shape is different: cardamom is oblong or oblate, its base is triangular, the surface is grayish brown, and the texture is hard. Nutmeg is oval, long in 3cm, wide in 2cm, the surface is grayish yellow.

2. Cultivation techniques of nutmeg

1. Sowing seeds

Seed propagation is mainly used, and the fully mature and naturally cracked fruit should be selected from the excellent mother tree with stable yield, high yield, large grain, full kernel and no diseases and insect pests. Sow with picking, or store with wet sand. When the seed is dehydrated and dried, it loses its germinating power. The soil of the seedbed should be soft and fertile, row distance 10cm × 5cm, hole sowing, navel down, keep shaded and moist, germinate for about 60 days, and vegetable seedlings will be transplanted when the real leaves will be on display. Young trees should be sheltered and planted when the seedling height is 20-30cm. Plant in overcast and rainy days from March to April in spring or August to October in autumn, the distance between rows is 5m × 4m, the depth and width of holes are 60cm, and one seedling is planted in each hole.

two。 Field management

Young trees grow slowly and need shade, so they can plant tall green manure between rows and water them frequently. Because of the large crown width and shallow root system, windbreak forest belt should be planted first when planting pure forest, and windbreak must be carried out in areas with frequent typhoons. Fertilizing 3-4 times a year, mainly organic fertilizer, combined with chemical fertilizer, topdressing organic fertilizer 5-10kg or urea 25-50g per plant at young age, and compost in winter. In the future, fertilizer will be applied gradually with the increase of tree age.

3. Pest control

The disease has spot disease and blight, which can be sprayed with Bordeaux solution 1purl 120 times or dimethazone 500 times; rust rot and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum are irrigated with more than 50% carbendazim or methyl topiramate 500 times. There is another disease such as blight and root rot. Insect pests include grubs, ground tigers, mole crickets, golden needles and so on.

Cardamom and nutmeg are relatively easy to distinguish, their uses are different, we can use them according to their own needs.
