The difference between Caohe car and fist ginseng

Caoheche is Bistorta, both of which are different names of the same variety, mainly produced in North China, Northwest China, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei and other places. Harvested before germination in spring or when the aboveground part withers in autumn.

I. Morphological characteristics

Perennial herb. Rhizomes plump, 1-3 cm in diam., curved, blackish brown. Stems erect, 50-90 cm tall, unbranched, glabrous, usually 2-3 arising from rhizomes. Basal leaves broadly lanceolate or narrowly ovate, papery, 4-18 cm long, 2-5 cm wide; apex acuminate or acute, base truncate or subcordate, winged along petiole, glabrous on both surfaces or pubescent below, margin revolute, slightly undulate, petiole 10-20 cm long; cauline leaves lanceolate or linear, sessile; stipules tubular, membranous, lower green, upper brown, apex oblique, dehiscent to middle, glabrous. Achenes elliptic, both ends pointed, brown, glossy, ca. 3.5 mm, slightly longer than persistent perianth. Flowering from June to July, fruiting from August to September.

II. Main values
