Bitter chrysanthemum is an annual or biennial herb of the genus chicory in the Compositae family. Its tender leaves are edible, stir-fried or cold. It is a delicious food for clearing away heat and removing fire. So, how to grow bitter chrysanthemum seeds?

1. Land selection and preparation

Bitter chrysanthemum is not strict on soil, but it is suitable for loam or clay land with sufficient sunshine, convenient drainage and irrigation, loose and fertile soil, deep and moist soil, good water and fertility conservation and pH 4.5-8.5. After selecting the plot, it is necessary to prepare the land, first turn the soil deeply, then apply completely rotten farm manure, then rake the land flat, and then make the border, the width of the border is 0.8-1.2 meters, and the width of the inter-border ditch is about 40 centimeters.

2. Soaking seeds to accelerate germination

Soak the seeds in 55 ℃ warm water for 20 minutes, keep stirring until the water temperature drops to 30 ℃, then soak the seeds for 24-48 hours, then drain and wrap them with clean wet gauze and germinate under the condition of 20-25 ℃. Rinse with clean water 1-2 times a day, and sow when 70% of the seeds are white.

3. Sowing and raising seedlings

Bitter chrysanthemum seeds can be sown all the year round. If the daily average temperature is higher than 10 ℃, seedlings can be raised in the open field; if the daily average temperature is lower than 10 ℃, seedlings should be raised in the protected field; if the summer temperature is too high, sunshade net or grass curtain should be used to cover the sun and rain. Sow the bitter chrysanthemum seeds directly in the soil, cover the matrix or fine soil 0.6-0.8 cm thick after sowing, and then water them with a kettle or water pipe with nozzles, watering them all at once, waiting for seedlings to emerge.

4. transplant at the right time

When the seedlings grow to 5-7 leaves, they can be transplanted with soil. It is appropriate to plant the seedlings with 2-3 cm at the top of the original substrate, with a row spacing of 35-45 cm and a plant spacing of 30-40 cm. If it is a high temperature season, should the scaffolding be built in the morning of the transplanting day to cover the sunshade, and then transplant after 16:00 in the afternoon.
