Sweet elephant grass and elephant grass are both plants of the genus, and sweet elephant grass is a kind of forage grass widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas, which has high application value. what is the difference between sweet elephant grass and elephant grass?

What is the difference between sweet elephant grass and elephant grass?

Sweet elephant grass plant is more than 5 meters high, has 50-100 tillers, alternate leaves, 40-100cm long, 1-3cm wide, leaves covered with furry, is cultivated on the basis of elephant grass, sweet suitable for livestock to eat. Like grass culms erect, 2-4 m tall, smooth or hairy on nodes, densely pilose at base of inflorescence. The leaf sheath is smooth or verrucous, the ligule is short and small, the leaf blade is linear, flat and hard.

Second, how to grow sweet elephant grass?

1. Cultivation time: sweet elephant grass likes warm and humid climate, has a wide adaptability, can withstand light frost, and its cold resistance is stronger than that of Phyllostachys pubescens. It can be cultivated all year round in frost-free areas in winter, generally from March to October, and seedlings can be planted at any time.

2. Applying sufficient base fertilizer: before transplanting seedlings in the field, sweet elephant grass applied 2000 kg of high-quality farm manure and 200kg of calcium superphosphate per mu, and in the absence of farm manure, applied compound fertilizer and calcium superphosphate per hole and mixed evenly with the subsoil.

3. Cultivation density: sweet elephant grass is cultivated as green fodder, 2000 to 3000 plants per mu, seed section to propagate, frame timber, ornamental, and 800 to 1000 plants per mu, which should be used for fencing, embankment and slope protection. Irregular slopes and mountains depend on specific conditions.

4. Cultivation methods

① trench planting: when planting in flat fields or plots, dig planting ditches according to different row spacing, the ditch depth is about 14 cm, apply appropriate amount of farm fertilizer or calcium phosphate fertilizer as base fertilizer, and then cover 7 cm fine soil to straighten and stabilize.

② hole planting: planting on the hillside, choosing a good planting point, preferably fish scale or equal height terrace hole planting, the planting method is the same as the ditch planting method of 1 plant per hole.

③ ramet transplanting: select seedlings for plants with more robust tillers in 1 ~ 2 years, dig up 3/4 from the roots of the old mackerel, do less damage to the rhizome as far as possible, remove the tender leaves at the top, and carry out artificial ramet, and planting with trenching or burrowing is also used.
