Taxus is recognized as a natural rare anticancer plant on the verge of extinction in the world. It is an ancient relict tree species left over from Quaternary glaciers and has a history of 2.5 million years on earth. It will also bear fruit, and the fruit is crimson. So, how many years does the yew bear fruit?

First, how many years of yew fruit?

There are many varieties of yew, different varieties, different seedlings, different fruiting years. If it is Taxus mairei, the fruiting time is 7-8 years old; if it is Taxus mairei, the fruiting time is 4-5 years old. If it is a seedling, it usually takes more than 7 years to bear fruit; if it is a cutting seedling, it will take about 3 years to bear fruit.

Taxus is a dioecious plant, the male plant only blossoms but does not bear fruit, the female plant only bears beans but does not blossom. If there is only one yew at home, which cannot bear fruit, it can only be planted as a foliage pot, and there must be both female and male plants. Generally speaking, after the male plant blossoms from May to June, the next female plant will produce beans in the axils of the leaves, and the seed maturity period is from October to November, when the seed fleshy ectoplasmic receptacle will change from green to yellow-brown.

Second, how to distinguish between male and female yew?

1. Look at the leaves: the leaves of the female yew are shorter, look denser and darker. The leaves of the male yew are longer, look sparse and lighter in color.

2. Look at the branches: the branches of the male yew basically have no bifurcation, on the contrary, it is the female yew.

3. Look at the buds: it is the male yew that can clearly see the buds, and the buds of the female yew are very small, and only a small water droplet-like flower can be seen when it blossoms.

4. Look at the fruit: it is the female yew that can bear fruit.
